IMO Ching isn't a big omission. In fact none of the 7 left off were

I don't agree with this at all. Ching should have been on the reserves maybe not against England but defo against Slovenia and Algeria. We lack a player who is smart and can hold up possession with his back to the goal late in a match to preserve a 2-1 lead. With all of our injures on the back line we are going to need to keep possession on the other side of the pitch in these moments. Ching provides that in fact he's the only player on the front lines who can do this. In situations like that having a Gomez, Buddle or Findley on the pitch are useless. In fact with their lack of experience in USMNT matches they are probably more likely to turn the ball over. If we lose against England then we might need wins in the other 2 to advance and one mistake late could be the difference between crashing out and advancing.

Jozy can be good at being a hold up player with his back to the goal. He is very strong. Just saying

He's strong but his game is different. Jozy has one world class move and that's backing into a single defender, turning him and creating an easy shot on goal. He's already one of the best in the world at it (its why we were so good with Davies, Charlie often pulled one defender off Jozy leaving Altidore single covered, unfortunately Altidore can't do squat against double teams). What Jozy can't do is get control of the ball and dribble it into a corner and/or keep possession.

Jozy is better playing off a hold up player, imo. His best games for Hull were when he was paired with Venegoor of Hesselink. People keep saying he was good paired with Davies, I don't necessarily agree. I think Davies is just good.

I agree with the above, there isn't a situation I can foresee that would put Robbie Findley anywhere near the pitch. He hasn't proven much of anything at any level, except when he's gotten his shot internationally...he's proven to be a turnover machine.

Ching is a useful player. Findley isn't. There are only 23 roster spots, if you're going to bring along a guy to sit there and soak up the atmosphere, bring a centerback.

The main case for Findley is this: he's fast enough to keep up with Donovan on a counter. If we need to lay back and play for the counter and Donovan needs someone to play off of on a break, Findley can stay with him. (Think Donovan and Davies in the Confed Cup)
