Conspiracy theory...?

You reckon that's what the 'authorities' wanted?

Not so much conspiracy as it was designed to stop what happened to Portsmouth happening again. But they could have dealt with that in another way and they must have known the laws would also prevent another Man City type club coming through.

As any new club breaking into the top 4 knocks out one of Arsenal/Chelsea/Utd/RS we all know it kills a cash cow (well not kill, dents it) for the rights abroad who expect those clubs to be there. Clubs like Spurs/City and us don't have that pull. Of course this changes over the years as glory hunters switch from say Chelsea to City but it hurts their product where they would be happy having the core popular teams all in one competition.

Which is why they want to change the CL rules to ensure that happens.

You can probably make more sense of this than me, but this is what Forbes lists for all of these clubs. I added in the Price/Revenue and Price/Earnings (assuming Earnings ~ NOI) for comps and giggles.

In the end, a buyer pays what they want to pay for a club, and there's such a small number of clubs for sale and viable buyers, that we can't really guess the true price, like we can a used car.

Just imagine what we’ll be worth when the new stadium is built.

Very naive to think it’s not what the big clubs and subsequently their puppet masters “the authorities” wanted! Keeps the shop nice and closed for them, and more recently more rumours of changes to the Champions (I use that word loosely!) League which would appear to try make it even more difficult for clubs like Everton and others to break through!
The rich just want to keep getting richer!

So, conspiracy theory then...

The 'official' view is that it was designed to prevent the likes of the Qataris throwing limitless funds into the likes of City to make football a 'buy a championship' game. Many will say, too late for that, but it was mainly designed to stop the progress of that juggernaut. Unintended consequence is it freezes the current haves and have nots.

But if you want to believe the 'big clubs' concocted this deal together and were in cohoots with the 'authorities', then crack on mate.

I guess that's the issue, he gets his equity out, which is increased over what he bought it for. Can he sell for $1B? That's a lot of money, but I guess it makes sense.

*Forbes thinks they're worth $2.5B, so I guess he can. Just takes the right investment group, and rich, bored people who want to buy a club...
BPB bought in over a period at between £ 800 - 1300
Moshiri initially bought in his 49.50% (or BBPsold out, depending how you view things) @ £5000-ish
Forbes now value EFC @ £13,600.

Everyones a winner...so far.

I am reasonably sure that the money he has lobbed at Chelsea has been converted to equity, or if not, appears on their balance sheet as an unsecured, interest free loan. Roughly, he has sent £1 Billion their way.

The market cap of Chelsea is said to be just north of £1 Billion, and finding a buyer would be relatively easy.

Whether its equity or club debt, either would be returned to him. Moshiri is doing essentially the same thing here.
Chelsea is completely different they have increased the fan base won trophies by doing that have increased the value of the club.

It's highly unlikely that we will reach that level.

We were a top 6 team "the best of the rest" before he came here, he then came in spent 450m and we are still in the same category.

The top 6 are on a different level to us, you can't just buy a club build a new stadium and the sell for a profit.

If Mike Ashley can't sell newcastle for 300m, there's no way we're going to sell for around the 1 billion mark even with a new stadium.

Is the Arteta money in there somewhere?

In fairness we finished 11th the season he came and were a long long way off the top 6. We have spent money very badly for the first two years, but since he has came we have now established ourselves, across those 3 seasons as the main challengers to the top 6.

I wouldn't be marking our value next to Newcastle either, certainly not when we have a world class stadium in arguably one of the best sporting locations in the country.
