Hasn’t been to the World Cup yet and lost 2-3 years of challenging friendlies because of COVID and the pointless Nations League clogging up the international calendar. Lots of wins against CONCACAF minnows, and he has a habit of making those wins hard work.
 


Supposed to be about 0°F at kickoff. This kind of small-time ****housery of playing in Arctic conditions should be beneath us. It’s effing Honduras. Just put the game in a climate suitable for humans to be outdoors, and play them off the park because we’re the substantially more talented side. How much advantage is really being gained here? 10% at most? It’s not like the Azteca where the Mexican team is actually used to playing at altitude. Nobody plays in cold like this.

It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

I actually don't even think the conditions were taken into account. I think they wanted to a. not have the players fly all over the continent which eliminated the West coast once Canada chose Hamilton b. not play in cities where there are large Salvadoran and Honduran ex-pat populations which eliminated the East coast plus Florida, Texas and California and c. wanted to play in MLS specific stadiums.

Of course the last part is non-negotiable which is how you get a stupid decision like this.

Trying to duck Central American fans coming to crash your party is no less small-time. Imagine wanting to have your national team kick on and try to make a deep run into the knockout stages of the WC, but simultaneously being so afraid to play a qualifier in Orlando or Houston because too many Hondurans might show up that you decide to play in Minnesota in February.

I do get not wanting to play away games that are supposed to be home games. But also part of fixing that is convincing fans to come out.
