Ventilation

Should probably add that we're getting external wall insulation soon. Our neighbours have all said they have or had a similar issue. Ewi helped, presumably by stabilising thermal transfer.

If that's being done before Winter I'd hang fire on a mechanical ventilation system and just get the fans sorted. The external wall insulation will bring the U value of your wall down drastically and the water's much less likely to condense on them.

That's a good point, but when I brought it I had a new central heating system installed. Had an old back boiler installed, so it all got ripped out. So I'm not sure there is. Couldn't be sure though.
Old house, high ceilings? Might a larger radiator in the coldest room be a means to take the edge off? Sounds like some insulation is on the cards, and you are double sure you have checked shared walls and foundations for any 'shared' issue?

what central heating system have you got? Pressurised? If so your heating system will lose pressure if it has a leak, if it’s a gravity fed system if it had a leak you would never know as it would keep topping itself up. Did they connect on to old pipework or run new everywhere?
Combi boiler. Water pressure is stable. Combination of old and new iirc. We did have a rad valve leak last winter repaired and they tested the system at the time. Absolutely fine since.
