This is a prime case in point, years of under performance by Kenny is overlooked by one decent performance. These players are so poor that when they do anything even remotely passable it’s hailed as good. Kenny wasn’t good at the weekend, he was ‘good’ for him.

Conversely if our new signings aren’t amazing straight away they’re labelled as poor.

Mykolenko has played CL and international football. Kenny will never get anywhere near either. He shouldn’t be in the premier league.

He may well be better than Kenny, but, when building team spirit, especially when trying to repair a team spirit which has been so badly damaged by the previous manager, it is important to let the players know that, if you have played well, you will not be immediately dropped when the player you have replaced is fit. The player who is recovering from injury has to prove, either in training or in the under 23 side, that, on current form, he is better than the stand in. You can't just drop them because you think they are a better player.

For what it's worth, I think Myklolenko is a better player than Kenny, but, the fact remains, Kenny had a much better game against Leeds than any game Myklolenko has had for us.

We really need this fixing mylolenko to auto correct @GrandOldTeam haha

We've hopefully seen the last of these automatic names on the team sheet.
Lampard has spoken about Iwobi playing against Leeds based on how well he had trained. I really hope this will be the benchmark going forward, work hard in training, apply yourself and you'll play. Too many passengers walking into the side for too long.

I would be surprised if Vitalii Mykolenko goes straight back in the team after just returning from injury; easing the lad back and giving him a chance to get back up to speed with playing in the Premier League may be a better way to go. Also, I would imagine that his head will be a little mixed up at the moment with the situation in his home Country (he's Ukrainian?), no doubt he still has family there.

although i agree with most of that, he defintely was good on the weekend.

I'm sorry mate, but has Kenny had years of underperformance? Hes hardly played. When he has, hes generally done ok, a lot better than Coleman this season. For the most part though he hasnt played.

Kenny was brilliant atbthe weekend, and did well away at Chelsea too, and at home to Villa.

I mean this is just nonsense isn't it? Raphinha, who's laced Digne every time he's played us never got a kick and got hooked at HT. There's no chance you can say he didn't play well on the weekend. He completely nullified them

Agreed - remember Godfrey when he came back from covid - had a torrid few weeks. Of course the FSW kept putting him in there.

He’s played the equivalent of a full season.
40 prem games.
Ok it’s not a lot for a 24yr old.
And he had some terrible performances in his early years. I always thought he would be a solid prem player.

But done better with limited game time. Maybe Frank And coaches can add something to his game and give him confidence.
I don’t think he will ever be a top class full back, but maybe a new deal for a couple of seasons wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world

Hes not been awful for 5 years though. That's just an unduly harsh conclusion for me.

He’s not been brilliant at all though, ever. Brilliant is a prime Leighton Baines at left back. Brilliant is not doing his basic defensive duties passing it ok and doing a cruyff turn. It’s brilliant for him, and that’s the problem. Expectations of these players are so low that when they do something average we now think it’s brilliant.

No hes not been brilliant mate, hes not really been anything as hes hardly been selected.

I agree with you on Mykolenko and people writing him off, but I'm not sure that is solved by making out younger players whove hardly played have been woeful for years.

Personally I'd play Kenny at right back and Mykolenko at left back.
