How much was the Tamen fee? I dont see it as being the "decent" amount i referenced.

I believe it was nominal and undisclosed where as im talking about investing several million per player in the u21s that are able to rotate into the first team before long

….its so simple, its genius. Just buy an expensive youngster and he’ll automatically rotate into the first team, just like Thelwell has done with Chermiti.

We need to adopt this strategy before other clubs catch on.

Mate you’re entirely missing the point that we’ve barely had several million to spend on first teamers.

We’re not Chelsea, and this isn’t football manager. We’ll have about 12 contracted first team players as it is.

The model you’re suggesting isn’t a terrible one, but I’d suggest reading the room. There’s absolutely no way we have 6 first team defenders and trust kids to cover injuries.

We’re trying to move away from the plughole not deeper into the spin.

Youve lost me here. Im saying the plan THIS summer should be to go with a small squad (which Moyes has done in the past) and invest the saving in u21s that can step up if needed. This should be a decent amount per player.

Youve referenced a player 'Tamen' who signed for an undisclosed fee last summer. The last u21 player Everton signed in defence for half decent money was Branthwaite. Before that Garbutt.

Clearly not that simple, how long did it take branthwaite to become capable of playing for the first team?

Put the mouse and keyboard down and live in the real football world.

good defensively yesterday but so many attacks break down with how slow he is to operate the ball

LB should be a priority in the window imo

myko a decent back up or even a good rotation against the top sides if we were to get a more attacking player that wasnt as good defensively

I thought he was superb defensively yesterday.

But they still scored 2 goals and he offered nothing as an attacking threat.

Maybe he looks better in a better team.
Jep, maybe he was ran over a bit too easy for their first goal, but it was a collective failure in the end.

There you go again with your rude comments.

Meanwhile United signed Heaven in Jan for their u21s and he was straight into the first team when needed. Performing excellently.

Id say thats a fact. Which proves the point i made quite succinctly.

Using United as an example with them being an utter basket case club and below us in the table does not prove your point in any way mate.

Theres zero correlation between a premier league club signing an u21 defender for their youth team, them performing excellently when brought into their first 11 in an emergency....and the position that club are, in the table.

But you know that. Its precisely why the club should be signing these types -- John Dodds 16 from Hearts apparently signed today.

They should be allocating a few mil for an u21 left back to develop.

No you’re comparing situations. In the summer we will need about 8 players minimum for the first team. Let alone youth players we can spend a ‘decent’ amount on.

You’re comparing us to a basket case club is my point. They’ll pay a handy fee for Heaven as well. He’s done well for them but look where they are in the table….

I’ve got plenty of United fan mates and I promise you they aren’t happy an Arsenal youth player is starting games for them after spending so much money in the last few years.

You simply can’t trust u21s with extended responsibility after injuries, it’s really not that simple I’m afraid. The odd game here and there - emergencies - then absolutely, as long as they have the ability. Anything more than that and you’re flirting with disaster.

Using Heaven as an example isn’t really great when they’ve just lost at home to wolves….
