2024/25 Vitalii Mykolenko

You definitely get anything like the same sense of whats going on off the ball on TV. Obviously if there's a goal or whatever they'll analyse it after the event so you can see, but the camera by definition will be focusing on the ball so for 99% of the play you have no idea what a player is doing out of shot.
If the TV doesn't capture it then it leads to nothing important. Besides, when I was a match goer I spent the vast majority of my time watching the ball (and cursing...)

I dont think even a blocked view would make anyone watching games say Mykolenko has "always" been poor.

Different this to last season, night and day.

Last season he was good defensively, as almost everyone on here agreed.
Agreed. He looked good last season without being brilliant but the regression, like the team in general, has been startling

Got through a few lines...rolled my eyes...dropped to the end read "Maldini" popping out - who i doubt youve seen play either.

Yeah...good luck with claiming you have any objective opinion.

Anyone watching him play last season would say he did well defensively.

To claim hes "always" been poor is a lie.

Embarrassing.

He’s a good one vs one defender. Absolutely. Fairly physical, gets tight. Quite aggressive when he’s on it.

He’s abysmal in terms of shape and positioning and if you can’t see that you either haven’t seen him live or you’ve never actually played football yourself.

He has no idea about how to cut off passing angles, how to mark space and is always inevitably surprised if the ball goes behind him.

He’s not a good overall defender at all. He’s good in very specific scenarios.

Just read the first part...

"Embarrassing"

-- Yes your multiple posts showing hatred were pretty embarassing.

"He’s a good one vs one defender. Absolutely. Fairly physical, gets tight. Quite aggressive when he’s on it"

-- So he wasnt "ALWAYS POOR".
Well done.

Hatred? No I just don’t rate him.

He’s always been poor at certain things, are you no good at reading?

He’s the worst full back in the league.

Same vibe as certain posters in the Patterson thread.

Now youre claiming what, I misread the multiple posts i quoted?

Nah.
No he’s a nice lad and it’s terrible what he’s been through.

He’s just not a good left back mate, not that deep.

Bizarre you’d go anywhere else with it. I’ve even said how I feel for him after that gobs* Putins actions, it doesn’t excuse him being a poor premier league fullback.

I think in the context of a conversation like this it's relevant. If a full back is consistently out of position/making poor choices/not showing for the ball you don't really see it on TV but it's obviously a problem. The thing is on the occasion that it then does lead to something, if you've only ever seen him on TV you're maybe likely to say 'oh that's a rare mistake from him' whereas if you're watching him live you know that he does it all the time.

For me all the talk about last season just misses the point that he wasn't actually particularly good then either. He was one of the better performers for a team that was very bad for huge portions of the season, but that doesn't make him good in real terms. I think his level has dipped this year, but that's the problem when your best level is bang average, any loss of form is a huge issue because it takes you into unacceptable territory.

Worst lb I’ve seen for Everton.

Worse than Naysmith, Valente, Pistone.

Abysmal.

Was this years ago?

He’s dreadful.

Jokes gone sailing over your head mate.

He’s been woeful since he signed.

He does alright every 10 or so games when we play against a side who pen us right in and he’s up against a winger that just wants to run at him.

The second there is even a shred of space in behind him he hasn’t got a clue. Let alone how bad he is with the actual footy.

They’re all miles better than Mykolenko though sadly, Unsworth too.

He would not be out of place in the middle of the championship, not one bit.

Nice lad, really crap what him and his country have gone through. Really bad left back.

Earl Barrett > Mykolenko as a full back.

He’s utterly woeful mate. Lacks basic positioning.

You didnt watch us last season.

Goodness me.

Goodness me.
Is this the first time you’ve seen someone not rate one of our players?

Very odd.

If you rate him then all the best, in my opinion he would be average in the championship.

No hatred for the guy, he’s just not a good left back sadly. Only player I’ve ever hated is Schneiderlin.

How old are you? Very immature world view.

I think its simply the lies and hatred...then backpeddling...trying to gaslight and finally the insults that make me wonder what you're goal is here.

Anyway, i think its clear.

Maybe my memory is tosh but I vaguely remember him looking alright at times going forward when we had Ashley Cole as part of the coaching staff so maybe with Baines and Moyes we will see an improvement. Long term I'd like a replacement but short term perhaps we could see a boost.
