2024/25 Vitalii Mykolenko

Baines coaching is apparent. Myko did a lot of things out of his comfort zone today that were similar to what Baines did at his peak, but doesn’t have the required abilities to pull it off. Especially in the first half.
Straight sharp forward passing
Cut backs
Dribbling
Feigned crosses
All trademarks of Baines. Encouraging. Still need a better left back.

Thought he looked more assertive. He needs to be pushed by the coaches and he needs to push himself. No more hiding when Ndiaye is screaming out for support down that flank.

Lack of courage to try something positive due to the fear of losing the ball, this is plaguing the entire team, not only Myko. Spread this fear around and all you see is players making safe meaningless passes and the ball hardly move forward unless someone bear the burden of long ball.

He's not good enough but I thought he was much better today. The early crosses, though they weren't accurate enough to be converted, were our best outlet today. It looked to me as if he'd been told/coached to do it and looked better for it
Because he was. Just like he has been for his national team and how he started out for us before Dyche intervened.

Not saying he's Baines Mk.2, but he's an okay player who can at least provide the width and the cross.

We'll see but tonight it suddenly looked like he had a left foot on him
Because he does. Absolutely average player don't get me wrong, but his instant improvement over the last 2 games under different managers absolutely shows you that Dyche's instructions were to never venture forward or provide width, and it wasn't important who the players was, these will always be the instructions they receive.

Hopefully gets some confidence back in him at least.

I don't want to come to conclusions too quickly after two games. But I remember a video about dyche's coaching and it was all about staying narrow, especially when defending. And this supports your point

We really need to remember that him being generally quite poor at this level doesn’t mean he’s utterly useless and can never do anything right. Of course he can put a decent cross in sometimes and have good defensive days etc, he’s got about 50 international caps and cost £15m. He’s below average in PL terms but he’s not a pub player.
