I'm with you on this lcab. The Branagh remake was ok, but there's no substitute for the real McCoy. Looking forward to the last 8 episodes in this series. By the way, the glorious Ms Sallstrom: sadly not with us anymore. She committed suicide in 2007.

I've not seen the original - not available here - bu the Branagh remake as been on here (seen a couple of episodes) I enoyed it. So now I'll have to find the original somewhere.

Awful when you think back to last night's episode where her investigations took her into the room of a suicide victim.

Apparently she witnessed the tsunami and couldn't get over the experience.

I never watched last night - I record them on h.d.d.- but have got some episodes from last year .Having experienced Svenska T.V. for real , in the '80's , to find something of such high quality was superb .

I'd heard of the books , but the series is kick - arse . I should've watched them when I first recorded them .
As for her suicide , I'm totally k.o'd by that . To hear the reason is even more shocking .

Morse was slow , but no less boss for that . I actually quite liked the Branagh ones . Not a patch , of course on the real deal .

The Branagh effort is way too morose. It's like he knows he's playing a Swede and thinks he should come on all existential. It's probably there in the books (the commentary on the breakdown of Swedish society etc), but it doesn't make for good tv. I was pleasantly surprised by the pace of the original Swedish series and the fact that Wallander wasn't an altogether miserable git, as per Branagh. I'd still watch the Branagh version like...dunno if another series is in the pipeline.
