"Watch Classic Matches Again"

a bit of inspiration for us all for tomorrow, anyone else on here down there on that day?,electric fences, good old Batesy,I was soaked to the skin on the open terrace, dancing in the rain when old Plug hit that screamer to win it for us:)

My first ever trip to Stamford bridge that game,a very different place to the Stamford bridge of this day and age, very moody place to go as a 15 year old but one of the highlights of the 1987 championship season for me,the day I really thought we'd win the league

It was "brollytastic" in that open end that day matelol

I'm sure he was still just old"Plug" up to that point!!!Didn't "Zico" come in after that great goal?I may be wrong thoughlol
Never heard him called Plug!! But he was deffo called Bertie and think he had a wine bar called Bertie's in Bold street?
Random thoughts about that match:
Was it Chelsea TV or something? I remember film of the goal was not on MOTD iirc unlike the Arsenal win the following week which really put us in driving seat. Wayne Clarke's chip. It sounds like Danny Kelly commentating.
Pat Nevin playing for Chelsea!
Eden Hazard's dad Micky playing for Chelsea haha.
People talk about pace of the modern game but when I see that team in these clips it reminds me just how fast they were around the pitch. They were so good at mixing up short and long play using the full length and width of pitch. Oppo constantly being turned because we kept the ball moving so well with such intelligent movement off the ball too.

20 years! Only thing I can say is my dad and his generation from winning league in 1939 went through ww2, relegation, two losing semis including one vs the RS before promotion and actually winning league in 1963!!!!!! So I guess we have to hang in there!! I am Desperate for the younger generation to see some glory

Discounting the War years that the period was only 20 seasons.

When did we last win something? Billy Liar's tenure will be in the record books before too long.

Yep all,it was a Chelsea VHS video,I remember it was available in the old Toffee Shop so I got itlol,we knew Alan as Plug out of the beano,I remember him getting "Bertie" all the time but always thought that related to Bertie Bassett and"Allsorts" as he played in different positionslollollol

Blimey, of course it is probably that! Wine bar could be a complete coincidence in fact. Any way, what a hit!! A great week that one.

Met him one afternoon in 1991 in the boulevard pub in gateacre brow,he was very embarrassed when he walked in and three pissed up lads on an all dayer started chanting "zico zico zico!!" that goal did come up in the conversation that day and he was a decent guy
