Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

To be honest, why doesn't he just stay there? He is apparently earning 15m a year and still has another year on his contract. United are desperate to get his wages off their bill to free up cash for replacements. Doesn't he hold the cards here?

Talk of an England comeback for the final qualifiers and the World Cup are fanciful. It's his pride and wanting to play that is now being used against him by United - they are relying on this to save c300k per week. He hasn't asked to be sold and has every right to pull in every pound he is contractually owed. For some you reap what you sow, he held United to ransom with his contract negotiations and his threats to leave for City and a perceived lack of ambition - little loyalty now being shown back in his favour and make no mistake his wage has become a problem.

He is well within his rights to stay, Mourinho says he doesn't want/need to sell him so why not stay? It would do their heads in.

The only reason I can think he doesn't want to stay is that he wants to play and he's been told his opportunities next season will be just as if not more limited then the season just gone

It will be Catalyst for our new coming. Sleeping giant is awakening.

Can't we spend all this money on a boss player who's a minimum 5 years younger and doesn't have the baggage of being someone who turned his back on the club and gave his 13 best years of his career to one of our traditional rivals, whilst also taunting us on numerous occasions and being threatened with a libel lawsuit by one of our former managers at one point because of lies he wrote about EFC to sell books?

Walsh may be the one in Moshiri's ear telling him he's not worth it.

£21m in wages over 3 years, for a 31 year old. And that's before any transfer fee.

Rather than see them as embarrassing, I'm glad there's some people in the EFC hierarchy with some common sense.

we could get at least £15m for McCarthy and Rooney would cost almost nothing then. Rooney is a match-winner, McCarthy has been worthless to us this season. Even if he was fit he'd play a bit-part. Rooney is still capable of superb play and world-class play, is McCarthy? People are just against Rooney cos it's fun to troll and call him 'fat' or 'past it' but I'm glad almost 70% in the poll see his talent and the good it would bring to Everton, rather than keep us at 7th or 6th rather than get into the CL on a regular basis. most knowledgeable fans in football, nearly 70% who want Rooney prove that. I think Rooney always hoped and planned he would come back to Everton, just like Moyes always planned he would ditch us for Man Utd one day just like he forced Rooney out to lick SAF's backside.

Now saying stoke are putting a package together lol

Stoke are ready to take an amazing gamble on signing Wayne Rooney — with the backing of their sponsors Bet365.

The Potters ' manager Mark Hughes is behind the move to try to tempt the Manchester United star to ignore offers from China and the USA and stay in the Premier League with the Midlands club.

It's an ambitious project, but Bet365 comfortably have the financial clout to assemble a £45million package to tempt Rooney.

The UK-based online gambling company was founded by Stoke's chairman Peter Coates and is one of the major players in the betting industry with 20 million customers in 200 countries.

They could easily afford to bankroll a Rooney move and exploit the star's commercial appeal through that worldwide fanbase.

Any move to another domestic club would have financial complexities if United force the issue to cut Rooney loose.

He would be due a minimum £15million in wages plus whatever he would be legally due if the option for the extra year is on his side rather than United's.

That's why boss Jose Mourinho has thrown the ball into Rooney's court, saying it's his decision whether he stays at the club.

Rooney says Everton are the only English club he will join - and reveals he has "offers on the table"
If he stayed, Rooney could see out his contract but would have to accept, with United poised to hit the transfer market hard this summer, that he would be even more of a bit-part player next season than he was in this one.

Those who know Rooney well say that's not an option for the proud star, who believes he still has plenty left to offer at the top level.

United would also be inclined to hold out for a transfer fee if he stayed in the Premier League – and that could be up to the £20million they would demand if he opts to go to the Chinese Super League.

Everton chiefs' split on Rooney could cost him a dream transfer back to boyhood club
After his decade-plus of service at Old Trafford, during which time he's become the club's all-time goal-scorer, United may simply agree to waive any fee — effectively giving him a free transfer, in return for not paying up the remainder of his contract.

Stoke's interest is genuine and would mean Rooney can stay close to his Merseyside roots.

It's an intriguing twist to a story that will reach a conclusion later this summer, with Rooney claiming he will discuss all his options on a family holiday with wife Coleen and their three sons before making a decision.

* MICHAEL CARRICK has agreed a one-year extension to his contract at Manchester United, writes Tom Hopkinson.

The 35-year-old former England midfielder, who cost £18.6million when he joined from Tottenham 11 years ago, made 38 appearances in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side this season.
