Even just looking at that video you can see a difference in the 'feel' of the club then and now. Can't put my finger on it. It was just different. The bond between fans and players was incredible. No big time Charlies in the team then of course. Everyone was in it together, players and supporters.

watch the Everton v Wolves vid posted last night

Fans groaning about passing across the back, barely any singing, quite a dull atmosphere.

nothing has changed really.

We were on a journey then together. Moyes was dragging us from the bottom to European football that we hadn't experienced in a long time. We were slowly, player by player getting better and better. Then the market forces of the 'greatest league on the world' kicked in. The top teams came along and savaged our side. The media who had been loving plucky little Everton started to hate us as we challenged their favourite teams so started trying to undermine us at every opportunity and sell all our players.

We got ourselves into an environment where 5th wasn't enough any more and the bitterness against Moyes and his team grew and grew. To be honest since we lost the cup final in 09 it hasn't really been fun to be an evertonian. No one was on the same journey anymore. Apart from a few months last season there's always a portion of the fans who don't want the manager and quite a few if the players. The atmosphere at Goodison is rubbish, as we've improved the calibre of player they've become less 'Everton', and things that seemed so exciting in 07/08 like European football result in half empty stadiums. Sadly only Martinez starting to win consitenly or a new manager will bring back that feeling of excitement. Despite having some of the top young players in Europe we still dont feel like we're building anything and that is wrong.

Yes i agree with you, it's almost as if we are suffering some kind of delusion of grandeur. Its easier to pick out bad things and moan about it, than try to pick the lads that are playing on the park. I haven't heard a song about a player in a long time.
Yes, its slow going at the moment, and yes we're not playing the greatest football. but its the fans that are spirit of this club, not the big name players, not the money the club spends, its us, and frankly, we're shameful at the moment too.

We've gone from having an average team that overachieved to an excellent team that is underachieving. Evertonians will always stand by players that put a shift in, but right now we have players who think they are better than us without actually proving it.

The moaning is really annoying but the backlash to the moaning by people who seem to think wanting everton to finish above 12th is entitled, arrogant and expecting too much is 30 times as annoying.

There's a world of difference between true positivity and support (come on lads, we can still win the europa if we get behind the team in a late charge) and accepting mediocrity as our due.
