I managed to miss the Northern Light show on Friday night. I was at a mates 50th birthday and couldn't touch the end of my nose never mind see feint changes in colour in the sky. So on Saturday myself and a mate took the mountain bikes round the coast looking for a spot where the glare of the city lights weren't ruining the chances of seeing the Aurora. Taking some pictures and I hear some form of winged creature struggling with the spokes on my bike. Took a few shots as it was the biggest moth I'd seen before. And I DO NOT like moths.

Turns out this is a Maybug or a Cockchafer (obviously I had a slight giggle as the name.

Anyway, what bugs and critters have you come across recently that you never knew existed or were surprised by the size of it?

*awaits 'yer mars clunge' references.

That would be a goth of a moth.
It dooesn't matter that you don't like moths though as a Cockchafer (titters) is a type of beetle
When its dark it looks like a moth.

I did read through about it that it was a type of a beetle. It should have L plates on it as its flying skills are crap at best.

That couldn't land on you unless somebody threw it at you. They can't fly. ;)
If you had that in your hand and your mate was terrified of big bugs, what would you do? My mates would 100% have that arcing at my grid
