I wasn't very good but I was very fit and played 'openage' until i was 44 then 'dropped down' to Over 35s until I was 59.
Proud to admit I was the 'worst' player in some decent amateur teams but we won a few pots and Coaches liked my Alan Harper-esque versatility.

I was the Kevin Ratcliffe in some woefully bad teams.

My best goal was a beautiful, clipped, curling, dipping half volley into the top right corner over a crowded box as a corner was cleared out to where I was lurking about 15 yards out of the box. Sadly, as the pitch was doing a good impersonation of Passchendale, I slipped snd fell on my arse after the ball left my boot, so everyone assumed it was a flukey miss-hit. Bar stewards!

I was crap at footy but I did enjoy playing though, and that's all that mattered to me. I remember getting substituted late in one game after scoring a hat-trick and hearing one of the other team on the sideline saying: "He's crap him, all he's done all game is score three goals!" It must have sounded better in his head lol

Was technically crap but got loads of games as I'm a natural left footer which had a certain cache in the days of 442 and at 6"3 was useful for set-pieces.

The after effects of the drinking from the night before also left me in that Sunday league sweet-spot of coherent but not far from over aggressive.

Yep. Most ferocious tackler in Garston. Was buzzing a few weeks ago when my brother bumped into a bloke who just wanted to talk about me being a good player. Brother was miffed and tbe games happened 200 years ago.

I had a 1 in 3 goal scoring record,
I also scored an overhead bicycle kick on the square in our road while wearing a Crombie.
