If you're ever interested in a full immersion, some years back Bear Family put out a massive compilation of songs from the war called Next Stop Is Vietnam.
Here's a review of it. The reviewer complains that part of the content comprises music that was never commercially released or played on the radio, which to my ears is a nutso criticism but admittedly I look at it as a matter of historical as well as musical interest.
