The Beach Boys were way ahead of The Beatles in many ways - mainly down to harmony - and down to the Zeitgeist in the USA at the time which the Fab Four never really cracked.

Of course, The Beatles had that wonderful music hall tradition which is quintessentionally British. Beach Boys could never match that.
