30 years ago today I was in an 8am university class, bleary-eyed as usual, when a student walked in and interrupted the professor to let us all know an Austin hero was killed in a helicopter crash the night before. Most of us walked out of class. I remember smoking cigarettes with a mate before walking to my apartment, closing the blinds and unplugging the phone prior to pulling out all of his records to spin solo, alone with my memories of so many shows, encounters and to thank him in my own way for opening my eyes to a genre of music unknown to me. RIP, Stevie.
