Apparently Blind Owl insisted that the Canned Heat version be credited to the band member(s). If it had been stated as 'traditional', the record company would have kept all of the writing royalties. When the royalties came through for 'Going up the country', Canned Heat tracked down Henry Thomas's descendants and paid them the royalties, thereby getting one over the record company, who were making fat profits already from the band at that time.
