Did you say you much prefer a theremin solo instead?
I like solos when they serve the song and aren't wanky. Give me a Rivers Cuomo guitar solo over some crap like Yngwie Malmsteen. Technicality is so overrated.

Same here. Needless, prolonged noodling is just dumb. Out of self-amusement, I recently wrote a spoof academic paper on "cock rock" and how my friends always end up getting drunk and putting on GnR and Motley Crue and then deny it the next forming (the paper had figures, methods, results...the whole nine yards). I had to define "cock rock" of which one of the defining qualities was needless, prolonged noodling guitar solos.
