I came across these in Central America a very lot, I took a photo:

They weren't venomous, which the locals used to use as an excuse to dangerously antagonise them. I stayed well back like.

It used to give you warning, it would rear onto it's rear legs before it attacked. Very polite of it I thought.

If they weren't poisoness what did they do? Or was just scaring the [Poor language removed] out of people by being big hairy spiders enough?

If they bite you then you get sick" was the response.

They were generally docile and nocturnal so you wouldn't bump into many. Unless your hobby was walking through fields of crops and sugar cane.
