What has been your lowest point supporting Everton?

Here’s a cheerful thread for a Thursday evening. My personal top 3 is:

1. The 4-1 derby defeat under Benitez last season when they all sang his name

2. The 5-2 defeat at home to Watford under Benitez last season when Josh King scored a hat trick

3. The day Benitez was appointed Everton manager
This^^

After 40+ years .... its probably right now.

Somehow I have always had the optimism / delusion that with a couple of key signings we could compete again. Then came moshri with boatloads of cash, and several managers who flashed in the pan for a while but eventually always dissapoint.

But the truth is - there are at least 4 clubs who can always suck up all the players who could make a difference, then another 5-6 in a better financial position than us. Our recruitment has been absolute gash for at least a decade and our youth factory is pretty much flattering to deceive.

I dont see anything changing in football in the next decade at least

A lot of heart aches over the years
FA cup was always important to me seems FAC S/F defeats seemed to hurt more ............

1) FAC S/F Replay 1980 West Ham went to both games
2) FAC S/F 77 R/S - robbed
3) FAC S/F 71 R/S - Alan Ball put us 1-0 up

How was it the start of the spiral? We finished 8th under Silva the year after. The start of the spiral was summer 2016, the appointment of Koeman and Walsh and transfer window where we bought Bolasie for £28m. That was the day we became a basket case.
Yeah so the following season was no better and not long after Silva had to go, we sacked a manager who did a perfectly acceptable job to replace him with one that lasted a grand total of 60 games.
The sad thing is a lot of Everton fans actually thought that was a good idea.
It was the start of the downward spiral, as soon as Moshiri did that we knew the only way was down, we didn't in 2016, did we suspect it, I'm not so sure, but when he was stupid enough to sack Sam it confirmed we had problems.
I said this at the time and have been proven right.

I was going to post pretty much the same, think its worse losing in the FA Cup as you rightly say as it still had that magic about it. Add in the Man City Q/F when Varadi missed an absolute sitter to put us 3-1 up, lost the replay. RS S/F 2012 when Moyes being ultra cautious cost us when they were there for the taking. Lest said about Wigan Q/F at home the better !

Most did.
I didn’t, the lads by me who booed were laughing at the same time.
But iirc, the anger and rage was nothing like it is today.
Maybe the anger wasn’t as bad as today but there was only 16,000 there and quite a lot of them had well gone before the final whistle, I didn’t boo them myself, don’t believe in it, but I was a lot more than vexed with that team and performance!!

Good thread this. Mine, in no particular order:

1. That week in 2012 where Moyes threw the Anfield derby and Gerrard got a hat trick, we then went on to completely bottle the very winnable FA Cup semi final against them at Wembley, with that horror back pass from Distin being the catalyst
2. Losing 3-0 at home to Wigan in the cup quarter final the following season
3. The 5-2 at home to Watford last season
4. The 6-2 at Villa Park in I think 1989
5. My first ever time watching Everton live and getting gubbed 4-2 at Loftus Road with an Andy Sinton hat trick and Neville Southall getting sent off
6. My first ever time at Goodison losing 0-2 at home to Sheffield Wednesday with Carlton Palmer scoring a header from outside the box
7. The Efan Ekoku game at Norwich under Mike Walker
8. Going from title contenders full of hope to relegation candidates in 96-97
9. The whole period from 1997-2002 where there was literally nothing positive about the club
10. Everything about both our CL and EL "campaigns" in 2005-06, from Collina to Dinamo Bucharest
11. Selling Rooney
12. Every time Bill Kenwright's grid appears on TV
13. Lukaku missing about 600 chances including a penalty in the 2016 FA Cup semi final

I think I'll stop there but there are plenty more

1 Losing the 85 cup final, and our chance to do the double before the RS
2 losing the 86 league and cuo to them, thereby giving them their first double
3 Appointing Harvey as manager because 'that's what yiu di, innit? Promoting the backroom staff always works.' No, it worked once with Paisley, 99% of the other occassions end in tears (as ours did with the dismantling of the mid-80's team)

Honorable mentions (to stuff that made me more angry than low) to the collusion to let the RS defend the Champions League trophy in 05/the 'random' fact that we got Villa Real in the qualifier/Collina and Poll blowing 15 seconds early only for the ref to allow an extra 40+ seconds the following season for McAllister to score!

No.12 sticks out a mile, that face and every time I think of that blob of mess.

Lukakus 'performance' in that semi was incredible.

Wasn't that replay played on a Saturday or has my memory gone again?!!I remember the first game at their place on a Saturday, replay midweek at Goodison when, hello, hello, the ref lost the plot?,then getting beat back there, think Neil McDonald had a nightmare that day,us too, cold, wet and dumped out by Oldham.
It was on a Saturday, yes. The referee for the first two games was Tony Ward. He gave them a ridiculously soft penalty that gave them a draw in the first game and then completely lost control of things at Goodison in the first replay. I suppose the gap between the top sides in what is now the Championship and the top flight teams wasn't as big back then as it is now, they claimed quite a few notable scalps on that crappy plastic pitch and would go on and get promoted, so it was a tough place to go to for a cup tie. One of my mates had a ticket for an Oldham section and ended up watching the game from near the players tunnel. I remember him telling me that at full time, Terry Darracott had to be physically restrained from diving into the crowd to smack some local loudmouth who was giving him a bit of abuse as he was walking down the tunnel!

You're obviously a very new supporter. For me nothing compares to the days, weeks building up.to.the final day matches in 94 and 98. Unlike last season I had no confidence we were good enough to stay up and genuinely felt that relegation was coming.

Another one I'd add that I'm sure many would disagree with was when Moyes had signed for United and the stadium by and large stayed and clapped him to go. Showed absolutely no respect to the club that. He should have had a nice polite statement thanking him for his years of service and wishing him well but pack your bags and clear your desk and go. But to let him carry on when signed to another team in the division and actively trying to poach our players. No chance.

Those are the 3 that come to mind.

I'd add in Villareal in hindsight but at the time I felt we'd go again the next year and shrugged it off.
