I remember us being a good squad in a strong position in 96-97 under Royle only to get sucked into something of a fight for our lives. So it can happen.

"Wait until we have all our players back" was the most used excuse for our pathetic performances and results up to a month ago. Well, we have them all back bar two now (McCarthy and Stones - maybe 3 if you include Naisy as a starter), and we're no better. If anything we're slower, less imaginative and less combative. Our manager shows little idea of how to improve things. Dropping points away to the PL champions is one thing; dropping them at home to the likes of Hull City is quite another.
So, when can we start to panic about dropping into a relegation dogfight? And if a fight is what we get into, who are the players you'd want in the trenches with you?
Tbh I don't think anyone is 100% confident of beating qpr and if we don't that should set alarm bells ringing. The league table is simply too tight to allow for complacency. We're 6 points off 5th but only 5 points off the relegation zone.
And as for 83/84 we actually had the same number of points at the same stage of the season as now - 18 from 15 games - and the fans were painting messages on Kendall's garage door. So really Martinez hasn't got it tough at all in that sense.
We struggle to score/create and our defence looks ropey in nearly every game
Not a great mix really considering its a first team close to 100%
We're missing our best CB, our best CM and Naismith who's proved over the last year that he's a very important player for us. The rest of the team look a bit shattered and clearly need a break. We're not at 100% at all.We struggle to score/create and our defence looks ropey in nearly every game

A tad worrying that our 'best CB' is a kid. Stones has shown all the makings of a top defender but he still has a bit to learn. We're missing our best CB, our best CM and Naismith who's proved over the last year that he's a very important player for us. I'm not buying the idea that so long as we finish 17th or higher, the panic is avoided. We were within a whisker of 4th last season. Now folk are saying 17th would be acceptable? If anyone wants to panic, please feel free to do so. I'm not going too though. We won't get relegated, absolutely sure of that. Majorly dissapointed with our PL season so far, but no panic here.
Agreed. Like a struggling Everton the in winter 83/84. It can happen. But probably won't.
