Which new striker should we sign?

Player Valuation: £35m
Yakubu is on all the forums and in the press.

But what about Alfonso Alves that middlesbore are lining up as a yak replacement?

Or Marek Mintål or Kevin Kuranyi?

My choice, although could be out of our price range is Klass Jan Huntelaar.

Prolific striker that looks like he could handle the premier league.

Still Yakubu is proven in this league although, at 11 million, hes not exactly on the cheap. Given that it'd be a record signing, he'd be under maximum pressure (ala Beattie) to prove his value for money, not just in team contribution but in scoring goals regularly.

Still a proven goal scorer in this league versus a risk from another league.

Check out the Alves youtube vid on the net. How many of those goals would he score against the better keepers and defenders in the prem?

My vote is still with yak (unless we could get Huntelaar) but do we have the money?

Your thoughts?

I dont see why people saying saying this Alves, its obvious not alot of people have actually seen him play, yes we know of his goalscoring record in the 'dutch league' but really can he do that in the prem league?

At least we know the Yak is a proven goalscorer in the best league in the world....

Dont know if anyone caught goals on Sunday yesterday? But Harry Redknapp was on and they asked him about Yakubu who he had at Pompey. He said he knows how to find the back of the net, but started laughing and then said Johnson is going to have to do a lot of work! Making out that hes a lazy bugger.

Henry was called lazy by some and only ran when he had to, to preserve energy, My thoughts are if we have AJ who can run all day long and someone big and powerful like the yak- it could be an awesome combination. But we were saying that about Beats an AJ

sure, I've not seen him play apart from what's on the internet. A prolific record in another league is far from a guarantee, but it's better than no record.

many a future star has come from the dutch league, even the belgium or swedish leagues.

I remember Man U signing Van Nistelroy and my mate said, "well I could score 30 goals a season in Holland."

He was none to shoddy for the teams he played for.

I trust Moyes has a hell of alot more perspective on this debate than we do - re scouting and research - but with the money he has to work with we can't afford big money busts (like Pamala Anderson).

Liverpool have had Cisse and Morientes in recent years (its a fairly big list) who cost over ten mill a pop and did sweet FA. So I presume Moyes will play safe with the yak if he can afford him.

Unless a player from another division can be bought on the cheap, so we can strengthen other areas.

Just watched that brazilian on youtube, he looks mustard to be fair. Quick and an eye for goal and can crack a free kick. Might turn out to be a super star if anyone takes a chance on him. He got in the brazil squad for the copa america so he must be good to get in the national side. I cant help but think if we splash out 11m on the yak it'll be a rip off, its just my gutt feelin.

still I read the yak was second on the prem scoring list in the last three years - second to Henry. Fairly impressive when Pompey and Boro are teeing you up.

Most players perform better (exceptions that prove rule:Simon Davies etc.) under Moyes and he is at an age when he should be peaking.

European football should be an added fillip to motivate him.

Still Alfonso looks cheap at 5 or 6 million. Although who'd take the free kicks out of him, arteta and stubbs is anyones guess.

Well theres probably no better coach in world football than to make him quit his lazy ways than our very own Davey Moyes.

Arteta didnt do his fare share of the running until he joined us and started to adopt the Everton ethos.

I hope you are right Sim, I have big reservations about the Yak for the reasons mentioned by Micknick, what you don't know is whether he is capable of sustaining full energy levels for 90mins, from what I've seen he isn't:(

yes. same as manny probably needs a fire up his arse in the work rate department. But Moyes can do that. What he can't do is improve innate natural talent to any degree - he can provide the environment to nuture it, but thats it.

Yakubu and Fernandes would be a huge leap forward in skill and ability levels. With Moyesie's tutelage they could have a significant impact in our european, premier and FA cup campaigns this year.

The other strikers on the list would equally represent a skill upgrade from what we have at the moment.

I still have my doubts about Yakubu, but probably because 11 million is a lot for a player who doesnt run much, has a dodgy attitude and because we have Vaughan back from injury in a couple of months and I believe he will be ace.

Moyes and the team would make sure that if he came with any kind of an attitude that he'd lose it the first week of training. Rest assured.

still, scored alot of goals for all that. I don't care if he brings a picnic blanket onto the pitch and plays with his balls for 90 minutes as long as he bags 30 goals a season.

Aj stretches the oppositon with his pace, but Yakubu or some of the other forwards names I posted could provide that bit of quality in the final third, without adding much elsewhere.

I just hope the Yak doesn't become the Yuck, £11 mil is so much to us:)
