I wouldn't have minded picking up Dunne in the transfer window. Dude had one bad season on a team that tuned out and left him to dry.
I'll leave other "big" clubs City, Villa and Spurs because we probably couldn't ever get any of the players I'd want anyway. Here are players I like though may not need or be a good fit.
I've always liked Joe Hart. England would be smart to make him their keeper in the summer.
Not sure about getting him I also think that Benetez on Brum is good as well. He plays that role that Marcus Bent played for us in 04-05. His pace keeps the defense honest he holds the ball up well and he spreads out goals for the mids. The CBs and Hart get (and rightly so) credit for Brum's success but w/o Benetez taking pressure off them they might be say 12-14th.

Titus Bramble has been impressive the past 2 seasons.
Also Nugent because he bleeds blue. Big strikers often don't hit their prime until late in their 20s and I think he has alot of talent. If we can't find a place for him on the side then he'd gladly be the team mascot.
If Donovan isn't there I think a right sided partnership of Dempsey and Neville would work well. Dempsey is capable of scoring 8-10 prem goals he just needs a decent tackler/defender behind him.
