Who Do You Want To Play in the First Premier League Fixture in the New Stadium?

Everton’s first ever opponents at Goodison were Bolton, although in fairness that was a friendly. But if Bolton are promoted through the play offs (although their current form is making that look less likely) I think that would be a good one. I do take the point though about avoiding newly promoted teams striving to start well.

Who I'd want be Forest or Villa. Hate playing promoted sides early on as they seem to put it up to teams till they begin to run out of steam.
However, I reckon it will be the season curtain raiser on the Friday night. So I reckon it be a team that away fans havnt too far to travel so Man United or Sheffield United or Leeds if they are promoted.

Usually they go for a fixture with some significance for at least one of the sides. Others have mentioned Coventry - if they were promoted, it could be a good match-up.

Esp it be the only time over the first weekend TV be able to show the stadium in daylight and at night and it be a stand alone fixture for the new ground

we won our first league title in 1890-91

the first home game we played that season was against Wolves - so maybe them

we won the league title after playing Burnley (albeit we lost that game) - so maybe them if they get promoted

we played Aston Villa that season so maybe them

we also played West Brom and Sunderland that season so if one of them gets promoted via playoffs then maybe them

we played our first home league game at goodison park in 1892 against Nottingham Forest so maybe them
