Who should replace Frank Lampard?

we should've given the job to Dunc when he was caretaking. That moment he hugged the ballboy was the moment.

We missed it, because Everton that.

Now we're all depressed, out of the cup early again, our matches generally offer little excitement, and we will likely finally get relegated.

Many fans are past caring...a death-knell.
Tactics matter in club football. There is no reason to expect Dunc to have the tactical acumen required.

What was the reason to expect Lampard had these things? His failed Chelsea stint?

Tactics aren"t even all that matter: an impression of identity, of passion, of history, of loyalty, of fearlessness, of excitement. Qualities that may not win trophies, but keep the fans onside.

I didn't expect top 6 or cup wins with Dunc, but I was very interested in following his Everton, and I bet the matches would've been a lot more exciting than what we get now.

There wasn't any reason to think Frank would either. He was also a bad hire.

I didn't say it was everything but they do matter enough that you have to have a certain level of ability or you're screwed.

Only if the aim is to win trophies or get top 6. The state we were (are) in, I just wanted our matches to be fun to watch again, to feel something.

Allardyce had tactics up to his eyeballs...was that enjoyable? We had one of the best coaches in the world in Ancelotti...didn't do us much good.

Happy with finishing 15th if we have some barnstorming games on the way. Dunc was certainly capable of getting his players riled up to over-perform, which would've surely given us some memorable moments to thrill about.

Then there's the question of identity: if all our players & managers ostensibly have no history with our club, just see it as a job before moving on...then where is the motivation for fans to feel a sense of identity with them?

This club is depressed, and the managerial/player merry-go-round hasn't been the answer. Dunc's brief caretaking had the fans feeling alive again...what a wasted opportunity!

Oh no man you can't talk about Allardyce for tactics.

It'll be more fun if we play real football I promise.

The point is we employed Allardyce for his tactical abilities (shutting opponents down by playing anti-football). He got us 8th place in the end.

I wouldn't employ Dunc for his tactical abilities, i'd employ him for his ability to fire up the players & fans. It might only get us 15th, but that is preferable to:

1) Allardyce

and

2) right now.

Agreed?

Would you say Lampard fired up the fans last season?

I am struggling to understand if you are saying you’d rather be in the position we are in now versus being 8th under Allardyce.

If you would rather be in the position we are in now then I don’t know what to tell you besides you must pay women to stand on your balls in heels cos you love pain and misery

People on here saying Sean Dyche need to think, he’s said he’s a Liverpool fan. Kenny Dogleash is his idol.

Many fans don’t like his brand of football anyway, from the get go, but even those who do will be reaching for the bleach after 3 defeats on the spin and calling him a kopite. It will split the fan base from the start, similar to Benitez

He did. A false dawn. But it did reveal that the fans are hungrily searching for meaning, and connection.

I don't believe a Dunc-led Everton would've been as bad as Frank's team. Due to his nature, and history, we would still have that sense of fired-up excitement now, rather than the depressed situation we currently find ourselves in.

I see @dholliday expressed an ‘unsure’ icon on my post protesting against Martinez.

If you defend this, do so in the knowledge that I’m off to bed and will deal with any lunacy tomorrow.
He did give us one of our best-ever Prem seasons in 13-14. Some nice flashes of football thereafter, and a decent Euro adventure. Plus he got in Rom, our best striker since Latchford.

I agree a lot of the football in his last two seasons was excrutiating, and it seemed time for him to go. But he's nowhere near being at fault for our current predicament.

The one constant in our current predicament is Moshiri. He must take the blame (and he must go, frankly).

Er? Where did I say that? I said getting Dunc in would've been preferable to where we are now. You quoted this bit in your post.
