Liverpool FC fans’ letters: An utter tripe and heartless performance by Liverpool against Wigan Athletic

Mar 10 2010 Liverpool Echo

"THERE have been some pretty poor performances this season but this display caps them all! No heart, no passion and no quality.
People can bang on about the manager and the board all they want, but the players have to take responsibility for last night, their attitude was a disgrace, particularly Steven Gerrard. I've never seen him play so poorly or lack the commitment we expect of him as our captain. Too many players are sulking because of the position we are in and it's affecting performances."

"I HAD a ticket to go to the Reds game against Wigan Athletic on Monday night. Thank goodness I didn't go. This was a disgraceful performance by Liverpool, starting with our captain, Steven Gerrard. Everyone played below par. Perhaps Rafael Benitez set the tone for the performance by mentioning Portsmouth beforehand so when we lose it is one of those tough games that we are expected to lose?
You could tell in his pre-match press conference he was going to deploy a negative game. It is a shame what Liverpool has become under Rafael and I GUARANTEE you Rafael, it won’t get any better next season. Brace yourself for the ride, lads. Dark days yet to come."

LIVERPOOL’S players should donate their wages to charity this week.
That performance against Wigan was not good enough.
danash EVEN if he crawls over the line to finish in fourth position at the end of the season, the pressure on Rafael Benitez next season after every draw, never mind loss, would be unbearable. Too many people have lost faith in his judgement and his endlessly cautious tactics against even the bottom teams. If he is not sacked in June then next season will be another write off. We need a new start and so do the players"

"WE are simply are not good enough. Wigan deserved the win and were by far the better side. In 90 minutes Liverpool didn't have one shot on target. This is simply not acceptable.
Insua, Lucas, Maxi and Kuyt (they played on Monday night but I could name more) are not good enough to play for this club."

"WE are watching a club with no base and no heart.
All the wonderful guidelines Shanks crafted have gone. Passing the baton through a 'family' of coaches and players is a very distant memory"
twobob

"NEVER mind finishing fourth, I cannot honestly see Liverpool getting into the top six.Time for a big change – owners and manager."
hedevil

"THE defeat against Wigan on Monday was the single worst performance I have ever witnessed from a Liverpool team.
I lay all the blame on Rafael; he has somehow managed to drain every last bit of flair and confidence out of the team and the players look lost on the pitch."

"AN utter tripe performance against Wigan.
Steven Gerrard’s attitude said it all and is having an extremely negative effect".

I await his condemnation of the premier league for moving the wigan game, on Thursday when Lille have walloped them.
I hope the pitch is not to his satisfaction, air traffic control make them circle 30 times, the croissants are stale, the coffee is de-caf, the toilets won't flush and there's a boxing glove sized dump that's above the water line, his pen runs out, he breaks his specs and has to fix them with a plaster, gets frog flu and they lose 4-0 with steevie me getting 2 yellows for dives and carrlaaaar a straight red for his protestations.

All in all that would provide a fine night of entertainment for the 'neutral' fan.

BBC Sport - Football - Rafael Benitez hits back at Wigan chief Dave Whelan

Benitez attacks Dave Whelan for calling Liverpool FC a mess.

Nurse, the screens.

This feller has alienated nearly all of English football now.

I actually think he's toppled over into insanity. He needs to be sacked for his own good.

Read this earlier, what a complete mentalist - he cant even remember him doing exactly the same thing as Whelan did (albeit with a great deal less class) only a few days earlier.

The Kopites turning on him and it being reported by the local sycophantic press is significant. That's usually followed up by one of the local "reporters" being tasked with questioning his ability. After that there's the death threats (bullets in the post as per Houllier) followed by the manager 'resigning'. The Liverpool Way.

We're probably at Defcon 3 at the moment.
