Wimbledon 2023

Blowout sets by both sides, turning point tiebreak, 27 minute game, twenty-shot rallies, drop-shot winner from behind the baseline, fourth-set rally, set-losing double fault, racket destruction, early fifth-set break, consecutive holds to love, every way to hit a winner on an opponent coming to net. This one had it all. Someone had bingo on their 'match events' card well before it was over. Well-earned by Alcaraz. Best men's Wimbledon final in some time.

Alcaraz's outstanding characteristics are his movement, his defensive lobs and the touch on those drop shots. It's like watching a young Michael Chang who is so talented that he doesn't have to sacrifice his body. His movement makes coming to net a huge risk. He'll get power on the attempt to pass, where most players would not. If he can't quite get there, those defensive lobs border on offensive ones.

Full marks to Djokovic for conserving some energy after the fifth game of the third set, and mounting a comeback. That game breaks a player of lesser mental fortitude. That game also looked like the beginning of the end, in much the same way that Djokovic breaking Nadal physically two years ago at Philippe Chatrier did.

Not one working class tennis supporters in there today, sorry great match but cameras going to the crowd knocked me sick posing middle class people.. tickets for the boffins imo

The majority of tickets on Centre Court are given away via the free to enter public ballot.

Only reason there aren’t more “working class” people there (if that is even true) is because they aren’t applying.

Not that I’m sure how you can identify working class people by looks alone o_O

Coal on the face and a slightly sideways working hat would be the giveaway for me

I said the majority. I’ve been about three times in ten years just by applying for free every year.

How many ‘working class’ people do you know who enter the ballot ?
My son he's been twice but not the final obviously

I did see one guy at the back. He was walking along slightly hunched and he had a cloth cap which he was wringing in his hands. He touched his forelock frequently to passers-by and seemed altogether awkward and self conscious.
I guess he was the "token prole".
