I have only been doing it a few days but I find the following list very useful. It's the most common occurring letters in five letter words.
My strategy is to use 2 different 5 letter words to eliminate the most frequently occurring letters in the first 2 lines, from near the top of the list.

Took a while to make the leap from 3 to 4 but it clicked....eventually. I'm not sure it could have been any other word with the letters I'd eliminated and the 1st and 5th confirmed in the correct place.
Not sure how useful all these strategies I'm seeing are. Pretty much any 5 letter word that comes to mind and has no repeat letters is good enough to work from and the whole point for me is thinking it through. Getting it on the 5th or 6th guess is much more enjoyable than a lucky first guess. Even pluralising the C-Bomb worked for me.
