....'privileged upbringing' - So often defined by where you come from or how much money you have. Lots of wealthy children have soulless upbringings, it's more about a loving environment where you learn respect and how to determine right from wrong.

Yep, hate this 'privilege' business. Especially 'white privilege', as if EVERYONE with white skin, all across the globe, has had exactly the same chances in life.

That isn't what it means. Saying someone has 'white privilege' or 'male privilege' doesn't say that everything in their life is hunky dory or that they don't have their own issues caused by other lack of privileges. White privilege is saying that, as a rule, being white in society means you don't face certain types of discrimination or set backs. It does not say every single white person is a rich banker or that only white people are rich.

Saying someone has 'white privilege' or 'male privilege' doesn't say that everything in their life is hunky dory or that they don't have their own issues caused by other lack of privileges. White privilege is saying that, as a rule, being white in society means you don't face certain types of discrimination or set backs. It does not say every single white person is a rich banker or that only white people are rich.

Oh I know all that, but it is a blanket phrase thrown around social media sites as a one-size-fits-all response by anyone looking to shut down an argument because they're bereft of valid comebacks.
