World Cup Prediction League

All fixtures and results are entered externally to which we have no control over. While it saves time, the lack of control can prove to be a bit of a pain in the backside. I can't even edit any scores at a later date (so if the site was unavailable and someone emailed/text me their predictions, they can't be entered when back online. Either then, can I fix it so I win...)

I naturally assumed predictions/scores would be the end of 90 minutes, as with any football pools but the Germans behind the product have needlessly complicated it.

Having sought clarification on latter round predictions, it appears total goals - including extra time AND penalties are taken into consideration, as so in 2006 final;

Example: Final 2006 Italy - France
1 – 1 (after extra time)
Penalties 5 - 3
Result 6 - 4

So you'd have needed to predict 6-4 in the 2006 final to be credited with total points.

Here are more examples;

example: quarter-finals 2006 England - Portugal
0 – 0 (a.e.t.)
Penalties 1 - 3
result 1 - 3

example: quarter-finals 2006 Germany - Argentina
1 – 1 (a.e.t.)
Penalties 4 - 2
result 5 - 3

example: round of 16 2002 Korea Republic - Italy
2 – 1 (a.e.t.)
result 2 - 1

example: quarter-finals 2002 Spain - Korea Republic
0 – 0 (a.e.t.)
Penalties 3 - 5
result 3 - 5

Hope that explains well enough. Basically every goal, including extra time and penalties are taken into the equation.

So basically, the penalty issue will even itself out as I doubt many people will be predicting 5-3 wins. Unless of course someone predicts 3-2 and that's how the penalties turn out.

I don't think it'll be much of a big deal to be honest.

Pretty much rules out the prospect of a draw though ay...

Suppose it keeps fixtures interesting for the duration, prediction wise.

Well I had thought about that in terms of what if I think it'll end in a draw and then go to penalties?

I figured (before you explained it) that the winner would be put down as 2-1. Your explanation says otherwise and thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up GOT - just hacked off I lost 3 points in extra-time - seems to me the organiser ought to be able (or should) enter the final score as at 90m - and pens included seems extreme - especially for those who predict a draw - and a flimsy reward for someone who predicts say 3-2 only for it to end 0-0 and go 3-2 on pens - controversial if you ask me!

100% Agree mate. Raised that issue - just an example of implications of results being decided/entered externally. I should be able to modify the final result - but hey ho. At least we'll only have this issue every few years...

The only benefit is that it keeps each fixture alive for its duration, prediction wise.

If you should be able to modify the result then I guess those right at the top of the leader board would be interested in knowing the (important) adjustments ASAP. Nothing worse than thinking you've put the ball 'in the net' only for someone to come along and rule that you didn't cross the line (in first). Keep up the good work :)
