World Snooker Championship

Half a million quid prize money… his wife is gonna be sucking him like a Dyson all week now

Really interesting clip during one of the mid breaks with steve davis and taking it away from the crucible. This looks like a liv golf in the making. Likes of wilson and bingham in that clip basically said show me the money and we're gone.

Next years final is already sold out and tickets with about 3 tickets left for one of the semis...between £400 & £600. A quick glance shows that only top-tier front row seats are left from pretty much the 1st round and they'll soon be gone. It's a tournament that's quickly made live attendance unaffordable for a huge swathe of it's supporters so I think any moral argument to stay at the Crucible as a rejection of greed is hard to agree with.

Aside from tradition for tradition's sake there's no real argument to stay in a venue that can't serve demand and where quite a few players have mentioned it no longer measures up in terms of facilities.

It's selling so hard because it's off.

That to me still makes the magic of the place though. But obviously i dont play there so if some players are mentioning it then fair enough.

I’d have some sympathy for this view if I felt that a 3,000 capacity venue elsewhere would bring prices back down. For some reason, as I look at the glint in Barry Hearn’s eye, I suspect these prices are staying high anywhere…

Exactly.
The likes of Barry Hearn would tear down Westminster Abbey and replace it with a stripclub if there's money to be earned.

Is nothing sacred though?

Also, it remains to be seen how popular this sport will be when Ronnie retires. Don't see a lot of charismatic youngsters coming trough the ranks.
