The worst thing I've seen off the top of my head is some video of the toddler Wang Yue that was run over twice, nobody stopped to help, people just walking around them. The wiki page is here, not finding the video, apparently 18 people walked past and refused to help. Grim.

One of the best worst things I've ever read is Blowfly Girl. Seriously, go and read it. It's super hot.

I provided close air support to NATO and other allied soldiers engaged in firefights in ~90% of combat sorties. Anyone in that area at that time is not all that innocent. I'm not saying collateral damage doesn't happen because it does and it is a tough pill to swallow. We don't specifically target people's homes and not take into account any innocent people in the vicinity. We have very intensive rules of engagement to limit the loss of innocent lives.

Not sure why people think we just bomb no-holds-barred.

Because the weaponry is portrayed as state of the art to justify expenditure and target specific yet the level of 'collateral damage' is excessive. It creates empathy with the victims among the population as they don't see insurgents or enemies but children killed and maimed for something a growing numberdon't wish to be done in their name.

The chessboard of warfare has little to do with terrorism or religious fanaticism but more to do with territoriality, resource capture and greed driven ideology.
