Would anyone like a dog?

Our family are an absolute lover of staffs and jack russells. Our side has had the JR's and my grandad's always had a staff, until about 18 months ago. (His last one was picked up from the RSPCA too) I'm going to give him a call so fingers crossed. I'd take it in if my parents were not just content with our Jack. Which RSPCA centre is he/she at? Also, what colour is his coat?

Sorry for the false hope, Grandad reckons he's getting too old. Shame as I know he loves walking with them. Every time we take our dog round to his we dont see him for two hours as he shoots off on a walk with her

Amongst others, I've had 3 staffs in my time.
One died aged 20, one was run over and had to be helped to heaven, and the other I still have.
They're the most beautiful dogs, and wonderful pets, with tremendous loyalty and devotion.
When stressed and ill treated, their coat loses shine and the hair falls out a little. It takes about 6 weeks for them to start looking healthy again after some loving.

Mine was kind of rescued, and has been an angel ever since. He even sits at the door waiting for me to wipe his feet, and carries anything with my smell on it around with him, from tv remotes to slippers, but never chews them bless him, but he doesn't like other dogs too much.

I really couldn't think of a better dog.

I really hope the little guy gets a fresh start with someone who will give him the love he needs. :(

Thanks for advice everyone.

Had a nightmare over this, long story short - the rspca are an absolute disgrace.

Managed to keep it alive by the skin of my teeth, just waiting for it to be transferred to another place who wont put it down to give more time to find it somewere.

I'm glad you have found somewhere and I'm glad you didnt leave it with the RSPCA. I too have had major problems with their attitude and I refuse to give any more money to their charity. I give to the Dogs Trust and to the Blue Cross instead. They have a much better response to strays. A friend of mine who is a copper in Holywell has refused to take any strays she picks up to the RSPCA and won't bother calling the RSPCA if there's any sort of animal welfare issue. They just don't want to know.
Sorry, that's my experience with them, apologies to anyone who has had better service.

Sorry mate, have four powder puffs and a rat (ok a killer chihuahua) at the mo so can't help. As an animal lover, more power to your elbow. Was surprised to hear about the RSPCA as have no direct dealings with them.

Only just seen this thread Danny. Its a real shame mate. Staffs are great dogs and if I didnt have 2 here I'd have been happy to take it. You couldnt find a more loyal and friendly dog once they get to know you. They dont get on with other dogs unless theyre familiar with them and unfortunately mine will wanna kill it. Breaks my heart how some people treat animals. The RSPCA are not worth bothering with. Theyre only in it for the money. How old is it roughly Danny. I'll ask my daughter if its only a young one mate.

Its 6 I believe Ray.

With regards to the RSPCA, how much are they expected to do? Its not like they can keep all animals forever, the country would be full of them, not to mention the cost of feeding them all. It might seem harsh, but life is.

They are what they are - and thats "pest control"

Even so, I didn't expect animal cruelty, nor did I expect their appalling attitude.

I've mentioned it to a lot of people since and a lot of people have replied with horror stories of their own, as on here.

Can't believe the stories I'm hearing about the RSPCA in your country. Surely they should be there in the best interest of abandoned and neglected animals? Can't believe they are that eager to put a fairly young, friendly and healthy animal down. This sort of things don't happen over here in Holland. All animals are sterilised and put up for adoptionif they are healthy and show no signs of agression. There are dogs and cats in Dutch animal shelters, who have been there for almost their entire life.

Went to a nice house with a couple in their 40's.

Its living a better life than me.
Ask them if they want a 44 year old male human. house trained (almost), gets on with other humans, especially females. Will fetch the paper. Loves rolling over and having his belly scratched. May try and shag your leg occaisionally
