Seriously though, is there really a scenario that would see conscription, dads and lads going off to war etc? Surely ground warfare like that isn't really part of modern warfare. It's all drones and airstrikes these days.

Can't see conscription ever coming back. As you say, technology has moved on so much that whilst there is still (currently) a role for infantry in warfare, it's smaller and more specialised. Fast forward another 30 years and you'd probably only see drones / robots in combat.

I don't want to die and nor would I wish to kill someone else, which I would surely have to do if I were conscripted to fight, so no I wouldn't want to do it

If they wanted me to do something away from the fighting I'd certainly do my bit in that regard, but I wouldn't want to fight
