Another Canadian from WWE, conspiracy?/?!!

nah seriously, terrible news this guy used to be a proper wrestler and damn good too.

Do you remember when Owen Hart died? He was doing a stunt sliding down some cable into the ring and he fell off- tragic really.

Mick, I still watch from time to time although few of the modern players have the charisma of some early wrestlers. I'm stunned and saddened by this news because Benoit, as an athlete and true wrestler was one of the best there has ever been. He went to the WWE with late Eddie Guerero from the now defunct WWC. I remember when Eddie died Chris, who was as hard as nails, cried openly over the demise of his buddy. He had worked behind the scenes to have the WWE help Eddies widow because Eddie had wasted millions on drugs, she is now employed on Smackdown by the company. Strangely he was a product of the dungeon gym in Canada run by the Hart family. He always came across as a really decent bloke in a world actors and arseholes and I feel sad at the news of his passing. I had checked for the results of Vengeance yesterday and he had suddenly disappeared off the card but no reason was given. Such is the bizare nature of wrestling they were running a story about Vince McMahon having been blown up in his limo, crap of course but it was being milked to the full, lets see if they do the right thing and drop that story as a sign of respect to the best wrestler on their rosta. RIP Chris Benoit

Here is the latest on this story, it makes sad reading unfortunately

The following is from WWE.com:

According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

Why people decide to take others with them is beyond me but it does point to the state of his mind, was he on drugs like Guerero?

Sorry for the guys death, but what is it in wrestling that is so intriguing? Its all an act, and pathetic that men so big pretend to fight?

SuitsBlue back me up? Wouldn't find a place in your team would they? ;)

as a spectacle and show of pure athletism it gives entertainment to all ages- from kids to Grannys all can enjoy it. I remember my Nan loving watching saturday afternoon wrestling with Big Daddy- British Bulldog etc

fair enough, just not my bag really.

Especially when you have witnessed some proper fights, it kind of doesn't seem to have that edge when they pretend to hit with the back of their arm and stamp their feet at the same time.

Give me Rocky anyday :)

It is an act but some of the stunts wrestlers do bring serious danger and injury. This is no Big Daddy crap as these blokes are amongst the fitest and strongest you can find, ask Tyson, Ali and many other boxers who have played in the same ring as them. Just think if it wasn't fixed then most wrestling careers would last about a fortnight! they train and perform to a very high degree and Benoit was one of the very best both in the USA, Japan and Canada

Wrestling is not a sport it is an entertainment, doesn't even claim to be a reality show, the story lines are so honestly unbelievable that they can be hilarious. People can knock it as much as they like it watched religiously by millions throughout the world, and I'm not one of them(y)

Very sad news, of all the wrestlers in the industry Chris Benoit would be the last you could think of to have killed himself and family.

Very sad end for one of the toughest and entertaining performers in sports entertainment.

all wrestlers at entertainment level take steroids to bulk up and retain water, steroids [Poor language removed] with kidneys, and liver and can [Poor language removed] with the brain.

davey boy smith died at age 40 - heart attack.

its a shame really that for modest gains in the present these people are willing to mortgage their health only a few years down the line.

very sad that the three are dead, if he is found to have been drugged up out of his mind, dont give him a burial, leave him out for stray dogs to eat (if he is proved to be drug fueled murdering scum)

(Ghost, there are already a few performance artists in the premiership, Drogba could mix it with the fairies in the wrestling game)

Yeah, was watching it live and for a few hours I was convinced it wasn't real.

Heard about Benoit late last night, tragic news. :(:(

May sound terrible, but am not saying RIP untill further news is developed.
