So are you still single core??

Quad core is out now from Intel and AMD's true quad core will be out laterthis year!

yep single core still, bleeding edge hardware costs a fortune, and the software (games) isnt utilising it yet, by some distance.

I beg to differ, there is quite a substanial list of games that support dual-core processors.

Some games that have dual core support...

Age of Empires III

Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2: Special Forces

Black & White 2

Call of Duty 2

City of Villains by NCSoft

F.E.A.R.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong

Quake 4

Quake 5 (promised when released)

Serious Sam 2 by Croteam

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The Movies

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3

Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland

Vangauard Saga of Heros

World of Warcraft

And that was just a quick google.

Back in November I upgraded from a P4 2.4 with 768Mb ram and a PCI  FX5200 to an AMD Athlon X2 64 4200, ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, 1Gb DDR400, 256MB GeForce 7900 GS for only $800. Oh a sound card was in there too. All in all, it runs everything in great resolutions. Worth my money.

amd barton 3200xp (400mhz fsb)
1 gb crucial DDR 400mhz
Abit NF7-s v2.0
nvidia Geforce 6800

the system i have outlined above plays all those games, what i was getting at with regards games and utilising the hardware, i was meaning that when games are made that require the more powerful hardware and thus wont play on my system.

$800 is about £400 currently, i dont reckon i could get your system together for 400 nicker (here in the UK anyway)

I find it amusing, as I was out of the PC gaming arena for so long, that AMD chips aren't as good as the Intel equivalents right now. And of course I bought on past history, otherwise I would have picked up a Core 2 Duo, which are rocking right now

So how does your system cope running those aforementioned games?? What resolutions you running at?? I stick with 1200x1024 as that is my modest 19" LCD's native resolution.

And my 3dMark06 (unregistered) score is a nothing special ~10,000. But it is leaps and bounds better than my old system which struggled to hit 3500, and it is playing everything I want it too right now. My next upgrade, I can't decide on. Do I drop the money on a 8800GTX or get a Core 2 Duo hyper-ship and mobo?? Descisions, descision.

one S in decision ;)

default display for my TFT is 1024 x 768

im looking at soundcards after a new AGP graphics card, the 'gainward bliss' is o/clockable just like my barton and ABIT mobo.

Is direct_X_10 going to be backwards compatible or 64mb OS systems only?

the AMD 64mb processors can run both 32mb and 64mb systems.

AMD has always been a slightly lesser processor manufacturer than intel, which is reflected in the cost, but certain facets of AMD cpu's mean that for example an AMD 2500 XP mobile can be overclocked with ballistix ram to run at over 3Ghz.

As you have the next generation of PC, whats the cooling and noise levels like?

Hi Dylan

Well at least you are on the east coast away from all the hula girls. Bet it is a bit colder as well.

I like that expression NUB = non useful body. Now we need a forum with that title, eh Danny, we could have some fun with that. How about BT for the first NUB?

On the subject of PCs. I do not know if mine is really that much upto it. It consists of a P4 300ghz, 1 gig crucial ddr ram, 160gig Samsung SATA hd, use the onboard VIA sound, geforce gfx 5500 with 256 ram onboard but it is in a PCI slot? What I do know is it can handle video editing pretty well for burning onto CDs and DVDs and photo processing. So how would one measure a PC score?

ch**st almighty, was getting a DL a lot of bother, spyware, adware, and all that for a super slow download. i hope this program is worth it. btw, have you ever used 'SiSoftware Sandra Pro Home' ?

My brother had his automatically renewed without him knowing and is gutted because he never uses it.

The jammy [Poor language removed] got a PS3 in January, it's absolutely class, beat him on need for speed at the first attempt ha.
