Yakubu enough?

A good side rely more on craft and class rather than work rate. You can run less if you can distribute better and be more intelligent with the ball. Just look at the way Milan and barca plays. They can let the opponent run whole day and yet still retain and play good football.

The BIG problem is with our midfield, it's simply not good enough to outclass average team, if we were to make the next step of improvement, we need a WORLD CLASS MIDFIELDER.

What we need against average teams are a creative midfielder in the middle. Carsley and Neville works well against the stronger teams when we have to play more defensively, but when we should dominate the midfield and put pressure on weaker teams.. they don't match the criteria. If we get Fernandes that might be the player we need for those games.

milan and fiats money
barca and the spanish governments money

everton and erm, a sizable mortgage and a crumbling stadium.

i could handle aj never scoring IF his play leads to a goal for someone else every game.

Well that just seems to be a argument for the sake of arguing. Or maybe you just seem to understand what really matters in football. Or perhaps its because we've nothing for years and we are just happy making the effort.

Agreed.

An AJ / Yakubu partnership will be formidible. Bikey could concentrate his efforts on AJ today as the other CB for Reading could mop up anything we threw at them.

But both Yakubu and AJ will cause problems for defenses like the one we saw today.

Looking forward to it if it happens.

Pity we did not manage to get lucho. Seems like manny and yak were plan B. Still better than nothing as our shortcomings were expose today.

you threw the hypothetical up there, 38 games no goals just effort.

perhaps i dont understand what YOU THINK "really matters in football."

as for the last sentance i wonder, if henry didnt put the effort in, would he still score?

Henry don't need to chase hopeless balls down the byline like what AJ did repeatedly today, last week and last seasons. Sometimes it works most of the time it won't. I'd rather see us play better in midfield and present chances to him on a plate.

Are you not concerned in the slightest? I don't give a [Poor language removed] about Henry I'm talking about our striker.

At the end of the day, no matter which way you slice it, which angle you look at it, and in whatever language, strikers need to score goals, and they certainly need to score open goals.

As far as I am concerned just because a player plays for Everton it doesn't remove them from the line of fire if they are not producing the goods.

I mean were quick enough to criticise Richard Wright. Hibbert also seems to be in line for the odd criticism from time to time. But I'm sure they are all putting in the effort, but if they are not tackling or making the saves, then they are a concern.

One thing I can say is that AJ does seem to show more than Beattie ever did and I"m not overly concerned, but it may get to the stage when we need to be seeing a goal return.

I think we're all more or less anxious for AJ to start scoring again. But as you say ghost.. he still creates more than BT did. As long as he creates chances for himself and others that leads to goals I'm not that concerned with who's scoring them.

Lets say AJ doesn't score in the coming 10 games.. but during those 10 games he creates chances for himself (that he misses) and his teammates (that score 10-15 goals on those chances AJ create for them).. then I'm not overly disappointed with his performance. If those instances disappear as well, then I'll start to worry.
