Now that’s he’s fully fit and has been playing for sporting, is it worth keeping him in the squad and using him at the end of games just for pace alone.

*runs*

Hi Fellas.

Palace fan here and I apologise for posting.. I actually came on here to see if there was a thread on Zaha as he is being linked with you again but stumbled on this Bolasie thread and have read every page.

As a Palace season ticket holder of 18 years I just thought I'd put my opinion across on Yala for what its worth as I see he does get alot of stick on here!!

Ok so when we signed him for peanuts he was all over the place. Bit like a newborn foal but you could see some flashes of quality..

I'll be honest he just clicked at Palace. It just worked for him. Him and Zaha just used to terrorise defences and constantly swapped. He had pace but always looked like he couldn't run properly if that makes sense.

When Warnock was our manager he summed Bolasie up perfectly. He said defenders can't cope with him because they don't know what he's gonna do and thats because he doesn't actually know what he's gonna do!! Perfect description!!

He did become a vital player and one season (in the championship) he was actually better than Zaha for most of the season.

It might be weird because its a wingers bread and butter but he couldn't cross for [Poor language removed] or shoot for [Poor language removed].. It actually became a long standing joke with Palace fans about his shooting because it was that awful!

But... On his day he could take on and beat any defender and i literally mean any defender.. He was unbelievable at times and he always seemed to have a good game against you lot as well!

But I won't lie when you came in with 28m every Palace fan was like 'thanks Yannick but off you go'... Bearing in mind we paid 300k for him we couldn't believe the offer.

Anyway I hope that gives you a Palace perspective on things and hope youre all coping ok during lockdown.. Not just saying it as I'm on here but always liked Everton.

And by the way James Mcarthy has been sensational.. That lads work rate is ridiculous!! Hes stayed fit so far and I hope it continues as he's become a very important player for us.

Take care

McCarthy was sensational for us in his first season, but largely dreadful or injured subsequently. The move suited everyone, so glad he’s doing well.

...we have a regular Palace poster on here in @Alan Whittle but your insight is most welcome. From a personal perspective, I had an uncle who lived in Thornton Heath and first went to Selhurst Park as a very young lad in the early 60s.

Not sure in the reasoning behind us acquiring Bolasie, except he was a product of our then DoF, Steve Walsh. Walsh spent far too much on players we didn’t need.

As you say, Bolasie is very hit and miss and wasn’t hat we needed. McCarthy is very effective, but he has glass hamstrings and is unavailable far too much.

To be honest he fits perfectly for Hodgson... We don't play football.. The only flair player Hodgson will start is Zaha. Otherwise its workhorses and defend defend defend then counter. Think that's why Mccarthy fits so well with James McArthur, Kouyate and Milivojevic.

In the nicest possible way mate he gets a lot of stick because with the money we have behind us and where we want to be going, we need more than a one trick pony who can beat a player every now and then but have his head explode once he’s past him. We’ve had some good wingers at Everton and we love a crossing game so someone who can do a few step overs and some YouTube “skillz” but absolutely nothing else was never going to be popular.

I totally agree mate. It was a ridiculous amount of money to pay for him.. You won't find a single Palace fan who didn't laugh and wanted him to stay when you came in with that offer.

Yeah I think Simon Jordan said that when the bid came in they laughed said something along the lines of “have they missed a decimal point there?” then asked for more as a joke which we duly paid.

Although I suspect that might just be Jordan hyperbolising as he often does. As for Zaha I was a big fan of his and last season I wanted him at any price however now I would look elsewhere.
