I have a horrible feeling he may not be able to return to top level football again.

I had exactly the same injuries (ruptured ACL and medial meniscus ligament damage), one is bad but both often means game over.

Obviously he will receive world class treatment however the human body is the same and he will struggle.

I did two and I'm fine now. Forza Yannick

I mean you have got to laugh right?

22 million on a winger, then he is finished 4 months later. I feel sorry for the lad but i just find that thought funny, only we could make a statement of intent signing (money not player) and then have him finished not even after 6 months.

He's not finished is he though Ash ?. No one knows what he'll be like until he comes back.

Let's wait and see x

Mate he's definitely not finished. 20 years ago maybe but pretty much all footballers recover from ACLs.
Now, whether he's the same player as he was is an interesting debate to be had in the future - definitely.

You got your man above saying he had the exact same thing and it finished him, never mind a fast premier league winger!

How many players have we had alone who 'weren't the same player' after a serious injury? Arteta? Yakubu? Last 2 i can think of anyway.

Point is, when a player is signed for pace, and that is his big selling point and he gets this happen, you aren't going to be the same player again after it, impossible. Even if nothing else you fear it happening again. Once you take yanick's pace away, is he going to offer something to the team? Granted he is creative but if his pace gets him to the space and suddenly he can't over exert himself anymore then that will reduce his ability to affect a game.

I never meant finished as retired, i meant finished for us. No longer able to play at the level we need to be playing at.

Which if he has lost his pace then he can't have much of an impact in the team.

Even if he comes back 'to the level he was it', it's not particularly exciting, is it? He's bang average even on a good day, hence why we had zero competition to sign him! I bet Palace couldn't believe it when we went in offering 25m. Crazy!

Reality though is he'll return to below the level he was at, and will probably be back around Christmas, and need until end of next season to fully show what he's capable of, by which time he'll be 29 and a yard of pace slower due to his injury.

All very reasonable this post, definitely.

I do rate the lad though. He's unpredictable and generally, his first touch is fantastic.

The thing that really works against Bolasie is that the majority of his best attributes are physical traits. Sure, he can dribble and beat his man with some skill, but he is a very poor finisher and his passing/crossing is kind of wild (albeit he was able to create chances by beating his man frequently; not sure if he will be the same after the injury). Mirallas can still have a big impact on games because he can finish and is an intelligent footballer (albeit a moody one). If Bolasie were to succeed, he might have to alter his game a little bit. Hopefully he doesn't lose too much of his raw ability.

To be fair though mate he probably didn't get anywhere near the level of treatment and rehabilitation a professional footballer will get in 2017. He probably went to his local walk in for an hour a week as supposed to the best treatement money can buy

Fair point.

Still the same sort of damage to the same part of the body, which assuming Yannick will be pushing that part a lot harder once he recovers as well, so it would be under more stress much quicker.

True mate but they won't play or overload him till it's healed assuming they know what they are doing. I don't think the club have gone and put Dr Nick in charge of his treatment. "Hi everybody". Only time will tell if he's the same player again but iv full confidence in the medical care available to him. Chill pal, Yanick seems relaxed and doesn't seem to down beat about it. Let the man get on with his Grime career in the meantime. Even having him around the club seems to give some of the players a lift with his banter with Lukaku etc

haha even better.

We have essentially signed a 22 million pound grime rapper.

He is going to spend more time in the studio then on the pitch, only everton.

I for one cannot wait to download his first album.

In all seriousness he's obviously still around the club day to day. You can't expect the lad to sit in his bedroom for 12 months. He has to keep his mind occupied. It's a big part of rehabilitation
