He was having a shocker before he went off. His reputation has grown because he hasn't played. You are always a better play once you aren't playing.
It's not even just that, for some reason he gets away with absolute murder when he plays. Against Villa he was all over the place and at one point actually headed the ball over Pickford's head (after letting the initial ball bounce) despite even me being able to hear Pickford shouting to him from my seat in the Gwladys. There was literally no mention of it in this thread, everyone just pretended it didn't happen. If either Keane or Holgate had done it people would have been bringing it up for months but for 'big yerald' not a peep.

I'm just fed up listening to people build him up so much when he can't stay on the pitch. It's no use to us in a relegation battle. He should have been sold last summer to allow for reinvestment. We can't keep players who can't get themselves fit.

He's been on that "list" to go if suitors were interested. Him, Gomes, Delph, James.

I agree. But the drop in quality from him to the rest is massive. Massively needs addressing.

Well all I'm saying is he is not our best defender. Your best player has to be someone who can play 2 games in a row without going off injured again.

I would stick with another pairing the rest of the year, and move on from him. There's no point trying to reintegrate him into a struggling team when we know he will break down. Centre back pairings need to play regularly. When was last time we got 3 games in a row from the same 2 players?

True

You forgot Keown, so underrated. Better than the majority on that list
Never forgot him - never knew him in an Everton shirt. Loved footy as a kid but around 1990 stopped watching and was more into bands in my late teens. Rediscovered my love of Everton in 1995 but was living in the States and missed the cup final. When I got home that summer I spent hours watching videos my brother had recorded of games - mainly Joe Royle's first season but also stuff from the Mike Walker years. I had a lot of catching up to do before the next season started but I was there in Upper Gwladys to see Kanchelskis' debut.

His hearts not and has never been in it from what i can see. He’s our best centre back, which doesn’t say much for the others.

Fair enough, was just you mentioned the 80’s so thought you would have seen him. Anyway he played from 89 to 93. And is definitely one of the best CB’s I’ve seen in a blue shirt , played in a poor era for us, and we had quite a small side, cottee, Beardsley, ward, beagrie, preki, Bob the pole, I won’t try and spell his surname.
Snodin, Horne, kenny.

It was southall, Watson, keown and Beardsley who probably kept Us in the league

Why is the medical department not telling the manager that Mina can't play 2 games in a week? We all know this.
This. Can't play 2 games a week and even then his fitness is a concern. The Godfrey situation didn't help obviously, but Mina needs to be rotated no matter what at this point.

You'd think someone would notice this being a pattern. The manager is obviously new and isn't helped by the complete lack of structure at the club though.

It's actually embarrassing how many games he either misses or has to go off in. He's clearly levels above the utter crap we have in that position but we should absolutely have moved him on in January if it was possible.

Can't wait for the next international break when he comfortably plays 2-3 games in a week for Colombia though.
