Holgate for me is first choice backup. I often forget Mina is still here. That's testament to the very good business done.

Mina is the superior defender and would mean if required we could make changes at the back, hopefully without a huge drop in performances.

It may also be to his benefit that he'll be expected to play fewer games when you consider his injury record. However, I think Frank will have Holgate as cover.

They want Mina off the books, so him picking up an injury is the last thing they'll want.

As much as I like Mina if we could get any sort of money for him in January then we should be all over it.

If he doesn't go in January, then he goes as out of contract in the summer. We really cannot afford to offer him a new contract with his injury record. It's a pity really, because he is a decent player, but, he picks up far too many injuries and just doesn't seem to have that real winners mindset, where they will play through the pain with their minor knocks, rather than miss games. That is not to say that I think he is a shirker, but, he does miss a lot of games with what are reported as minor knocks. He's a luxury we can't afford.

If this was last year or any other year I’d be gutted but Coady and Tarkowski mean he’s relatively forgotten about honestly. Holgate has also been great under Lampard so I’m in no fear at all with those 3 fit.

Also would doubt any of those links for a transfer, isn’t he out of contract in the summer, no club will pay money for someone so injury prone in January when if anything a period of him being sat on the bench fit here for 6 months would only benefit any club interested in him as it’d be more time to recover from injuries when not playing.

I'm guessing he will be out on a 6 mth loan in Jan and that will be that with him. Be interesting to keep an eye on him in the next season or two to see if this injury record continues. He seems a very likeable guy but I can't help feel that he might have downed tools and has done for a while
