1 He only had one spell as a player so NO

2 Correct but no cigar

That's what I get for using wikipedia (the source of the devil)

They all scored their last goals for us against the same team?

Played their last old 1st division game against us?

I'm just guessing now.

Got me racking my brains on this one Monty:

They didn't play against the same teams in their last game (or first game) - you might think their respective last (league) games were against loosely-defined as Midland opposition - Megson v Stoke, Big Bob v Wolves (as a sub - I was at this 0-0 game) and Howie (in his first spell before the Latch exchange) was against Wolves but in his 2nd spell (as player-manager) his last league game was against Coventry and he later played at West Ham in an FA Cup tie.

I note also that each player was associated with a particular shirt number (4, 7, 9) but also played in other shirt numbers but not uniquely the same number.

I then thought well Howard left when Bob arrived and then as manager he must have let both Megson and Bob go (summer 1981). Perhaps since he too made the decision to no longer play for Everton (1982) he was solely responsible for ending the Everton careers of all 3 persons!

Then I thought perhaps it was something to do with the transfer fees from their respective divisions - or a record for Everton at the time from the level they were signed from. Not sure this is true either!!

I don't think it's anything to do with any particular first or last goal scored for Everton.

I'm not sure it's anything to do with being managed by any particular person either.

I suspect it's something to do with a particular match - I'm fairly sure that all three didn't score against Everton after leaving us - Big Bob may well have done but not the other two!!

My best guess is: Everton beat off The [Poor language removed] to sign all three - definitely true of Howard Kendall and quite possibly true for Big Bob - so I'm going for this!!
