Verbal agreements don't mean a thing btw. I still rate the chances of us actually signing him to be about 25-1. Rather we opted for somebody proven in a decent league / a proven average PL goalscorer (8-12 goals a season), but if this is all we can do then let's have him.

A more charitable interpretation - and huge respect to Thelwell if this is the case - we’re playing SCP exactly because we’re interested in him and this is a fixture designed to help seal the deal by bringing the clubs together for a game.
