Its like when Princess Leia calls Han Solo a Scruffy looking Nerfherder... never mind,

Apple is to computers what the font on this site is to my eyeballs.

That wouldn't be me. I have the unique ability of picking the best equipment for the money. PC's are a given. No need to own a Mac if you are a smart user. Windows is no where near as bad as people make it out to be. The iPod? Many, many better MP3 players on the market and iTunes isn't all that and a kettle of fish.

What I really don't agree with is when people are 'brand-whores' like yourself. It doesn't just limit itself to that. Sony for example, they make some superb TV's, but they come at a premium over others. Other brands make TV's just as good. I have a Westinghouse and it stands up to the best 42" TV's on the market. You go into the electronics shop for a side-by-side and amazingly the Brand name TV's pictures look so much better (ever wonder why?) A TV's strength lay in the settings and the expensive ones are calibrated on the wall and the cheap ones aren't, so they look like ass. I go out with a copy of Cars on DVD and run the THX optimizer on it and the salesman couldn't see a difference.

WHY pay more? Why pay more for a PC masquerading as a Mac? Why pay more for an decent MP3 player? Why pay more for a brand name TV?

Why? So you can flash around on your Macbook listening to your iPod while texting from your iPhone?

But on topic, the SanDisk Sansa MP3 players look great, are cheap as hell and have great interfaces. Creative's players are top notch, Sony do a couple of good ones.

Anyway, I could go on more but I have crabby kids who need to go to bed.

im looking at purchasing a good mp3 player, dont need masses of space as the battery runs down before id get chance to listen to 10000 tracks. has to be a solid unit, none of this jolt and it skips baloney.

recommendations?

and i hate having to install something, i would much rather just drag the files on to it like an external drive or something.

Err, you need software to perform a task. You can't just put a piece of sheet music on a speaker and expect to hear tunes.

Yer feeling me!

:)

What benifits does that have over a differnet mp3 player but one of similar memory size and price?

Image, feel, the fact that its Apple. Sorry folks, not going to backdown.

You can tell me Carsley was good, AJ had ability, Kilbane was a demon. But you can't tell me Microsoft make better products than Apple. It just doesn't happen in the real world.

None of that means anything to me. Don't care about image or brand name.

Sell it to me, what benefits (other than name) does it have over other machines.

If it has any that is :P

User Interface, very simple to use. Oh and the new Genius feature is excellent. Pick a song, preferably one bought and not ripped from some crayzee geeerman site, click Genius and Voila, you have a playlist based on your one selection. I have been using it for about a week now as its brand new, and apart from one or two tracks, it gets it pretty well spot on, even hearing songs that I have never heard before. You know, album fillers that turn out to be gems.

Its all to do with algorithms and stuff, complicated maths, but it works. That's one thing that sells it to me.

Two, obviously if you get the iPhone, you have a phone plus many more features too.

Capacity, which is good.

I'll be honest with you, I don't know what to compare against really, as I have no first hand knowledge. But if past product is to be compared I would always go with an Apple product, because it doesn't complicate stuff, it gives you what you need without all the bollocks that seem to attach itself to Microsoft products.

You know when you open up a Microsoft browser, or Word application, and you get all kinds of popups, help things, notifications. Its like [Poor language removed] off, stop getting in the way of me doing what I need to do. Its fairly simple but effective way of producing a product that just does what it says without trying to make more money out of you.

Or think of it like this.

How many really intelligent people are there on the planet? And how many are just sheep followers? (red [Poor language removed] fans need not apply, we already know). Well millions of people get Microsoft products, why? because everyone else does. They are poor quality copycats. End of story. Those who know what great software is, what great design is, what great interface and user experience is, go for Apple. Some still cling on to Windows and try to make it better than what it is, but its like putting a silk hat on a pig.

Rant over. Get an iPod nano, start small, little expense, little risk. Maximum pleasure.

Why not get out and experiance something without that little Apple stuck on the side of it. You might be surprised.

Either that, or you, your imac/ipod/iphone should go rent a room and get it out of your system.

Why do I need to? It works for me, and it works for millions others. I'm a designer, I need to be inspired.
