2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

….these posts really are a total nonsense. I support the manager but like most others, I’ve certainly not ‘been in the woodwork’. Perhaps its more a case today of his detractors being a little upset ;)

Watching Everton this season has been mainly dreadful and Dyche is certainly accountable for that, I was hoping/expecting us to step up a level under him this season but it’s not happened. Today he got it right, his judgement on Keane was spot on and most importantly, I believe the two old fellas Gueye and Doucoure looked better than any combination used so far.
Gana was great today.

Not so Doucoure, the 3 bad mistakes he made today would have been punished heavily by any top half team.
Gana papered over his deficiencies.

….DCL did a terrific job up to a point but he’s just not clinical with when given chances. Keane is terrific in front of goal but he’s he like a tugboat leading the line.
DCL would be really useful in an old fashioned 4-4-2. There’s always the CF whose better off the ball, occupying the centre backs, running the channels, and linking play with the other CF who’s more cynical.

I would have put on Armstrong over Mangala, who i think is dreadful. Better to develop our own with game time than use rubbish loan players.

Also id have thrown in Patterson & Dixon down the right hand side -- inject pace against their weak left side.

Id have been tempted to throw Obrien on at the end as well but both CBs were solid so i appreciate that may have been silly.

McNeil does well in the 10 role but as he doesnt ever get beyond DCL were reliant on both Ndiaye and Harrison to cut inside and do so...Harrison is way off that.

Not sure on Lindstrom yet, i think 2nd half of the season we'll be able to form opinions on him.

There is no logic why Doucoure is playing instead of Iroegbunam, aside from the recent injury.

Not wanting to throw in potential new manager names but if Potter was manager I think he'd be introducing a more youthful and attacking style...whether it would be effective Im not sure.

But we need to rebuild and a decision has to be made what direction that will take.

We need another Ndiaye type of signing for the Right wing, that on both wings would already be an upgrade. Good job on that Kev!

As I said, our team is individually better than last season, but not better in the league comparison.

That for me means you should see some progress during possession. Dyche now had 2 summers to implement parts of the promised direct counter attacking football.

You don't see a lot in this matter.

….Gana was terrific and although he overrun the ball a couple of times, I thought Doucoure was surprisingly ok in keeping possession. I just thought the pairing was as good as we’ve seen this season, it’s the big problem Dyche has had and ironic the two old fella’s worked well together.

I agree with the Gana bit, but I wouldn't like to count how many times poor first touches from Doucoure and Mykolenko cost us possession.

Some decent points but

1. Do you not think that Mykolenko was given very little protection at LB
and
2. Young was given good cover on his side ?

I say that as someone who rates Ndayie very highly ( prefer him at 10 though) and doesn't think that Harrison gives us anything offensively

Im still in the Dyche camp because if we had superior players in certain areas today and over this season we'd likely be top 10.

The central midfield with Doucoure, Gana and Mangala in the mix looks really dreadful...as does our right hand side.

DCL and others are getting a decent amount of chances each game so the tactics seem to be working.

January will be an interesting window -- if hes still here and Thelwell is given decent funds to strengthen, we may see a bit more of what Dyche can deliver.

However, even today...why not throw on Dixon & Armstrong for the last 5-10mins?
Good players don’t want to play for him, DCL will walk away and Branthwaite to
We won’t attract players to play his style one win against a poor team doesn’t change nothing. He’s not a long term manager for a team that wants to kick on

Apart from one glaring give away Doucoure done pretty well 1st half .
Second half he was nothing more than an engine , that engine run out of fuel around 70 minutes . He was then caught out of position a lot and wasteful with the ball when he got it.
Gana really steeped up today.

….and I think that’s him in a nutshell. He was a bit unlucky with one he struck well in the first half were the keeper made a good save.

He seems so geared to leading the line and working for the cause so much that when a chance comes along he’s not able to change that mindset.
You'd think they would coach that somehow, his one on ones are terrible, almost Stuart Barlow-esq... he just seems to hit it straight at the keeper..

Doucoure is a really poor footballer and not good enough in a 2 against quality opposition, he’s not going to play against Phillips every week
