Cars today

On the subject of cars, are there any experts in here with any knowledge of consumer rights for buying a used car that had a fault on day 1, and getting a full refund?

I’m having an horrendous time dealing with Sytner 😡

Bought a used Audi 23rd Jan, and literally 1 minute after driving out of the showroom the engine management light came on. Its been a nightmare since.

Any guidance appreciated 🙏🏻

I’m no expert but I know you are protected under consumer rights…. I’d speak to a solicitor

If you paid by card there are some protections there. You also have statutory rights to return for free for about 14 days? (so long as it's returned as given)

No idea who sytner are.

You`re covered by the Sale of Goods Act.

Have a look and it`ll help explain your rights and also your right to return the car, as it`s faulty.

Slagging them off on their socials usually helps resolve the process too ;)

Yeah I’m sure there’s a law which covers this, very basically explained it’s something like if you pay £1000 for something you expect to get £1000 of value and use out of it …. It’s much more defined than that in law… but that’s basically it.

How old is the car? If less than 3 years theyll just send you to Audi..

It’s 10 years old.

But I’ve finally had a response this afternoon, after days of silence from them. They’ve agreed to a full refund thank god! Thought they would try and make it a lot harder for me, but seems they couldn’t really argue.

Onwards to the next one 😬

Friend of mine had exactly the same from Audi funnily enough. They tried to make it really difficult for him but he eventually got a full refund after a lot of persistence and quoting the act that somebody posted above. They put the car straight back on sale too.

They describe themselves as: The UKs leading retailer of prestige cars and the largest overall automotive retailer in Europe. They have quite a few Sytner Select dealerships in the North West. Assume it was owned by racing driver Frank Sytner.

A girl in work came to me in October to talk about her issue with a used car from Volkswagon and the issues. She worked through the complaints process with them and got to a point of having to pay an additional £3k to buy the contract out.

I signposted her to the Financial Ombudsman Service and just the other day she told me it was all resolved the the ombudsman with her out of the contract and compensation payments agreed.
