2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

Why are you mithered about England for?

It will be a big ambition for him to play in World Cup? Or home Euros after and he's a bit behind the level Konsa and Guehi are at?

It isn't a huge difference to Jags coming here and getting international recognition which he was never going to get at Sheffield United. Can't remember how often Lescott got caps here but he was always in the England squad after moving to Man. City and started in international tournaments.

He's been off it last few weeks. However just look back to last September. Conceding 2 or 3 every single game (and Keane wasn't even the worst CB in that run). He comes back v Palace/Newcastle/Ipswich and one goal conceded in that spell and seven crucial points.

Even if he isn't quite on it he makes Pickford, Tarks and Myko feel more confident and secure as those three had poor starts to the season but generally settled down again.

My one issue now is he's well down the England CB pecking order in Tuchel's mind. This is guy with fresh eyes compared to Southgate and he can't even get in the squad with Maguire and Stones injured.

Konsa is regularly playing European Football now and Guehi could easily move to Newcastle or Chelsea this season so he will be very soon aswell.

On balance I'd still give it 65/70% he's here next season but I think beyond that you'd have to be very optimistic to think he won't want to push on and play for a side with European ambitions. None of the Forest players have made the squad either so it's clearly a big thing in Tuchel's mind he wants as much top level experience as possible.
Yeah but genuinely think Moyes record of bringing through top defenders counters your point somewhat re Eng selection.
If Everton climb the table next season (in shiny new stadium) I'd be confident he'll be more than looked at. He's class. Just looks a bit tired and shaking off PTDS (Post Traumatic Dyche Syndrome)

Wasn't it this time last year some posters on here were convinced he was going to RS? Sure there was a random link to them amongst the more consistent Man. United links.

He'll be here next season I'm fairly sure but also not convinced he'll pen a new deal, will be more wait and see on the actual start and also the England selections early next season from his POV I think.

Nah. Look at alll the Everton players called up (unfortunately) from poor Everton teams in the last few years.

Tuchel can see he's not operating well enough.

I agree to an extent. I thought since Moyes came in, Branthwaites performances have improved as early season they were pretty poor.

He had a bit of a stinker today though and his heading really doesn't convince me. He certainly isn't the threat from set pieces that a player his height should be. I would much more fancy a ball going towards Tarky in the opposition box than him.

I think generally he had a breakthrough season last season and this season he's taken a backwards step, maybe the hype got to him. But next season hopefully he will push on again.

It's also the fact I dont think he's doing what he looks to be capable of on the ball.

Case in point today: he's heading out balls in his own half when not under pressure and trying to get distance on them. I counted two he has enough time to control on his chest and get on the move up the pitch with or controlling and knocking it out wide, but he just chooses to aimlessly head the ball as far away from himself as he can get it.

There's not way a CL club is watching that and is impressed by it, and I can see why Tuchel is giving him a wide berth at the moment.

He looks a bit meat and potatoes for me at right now when he really should be starting to serve up a bit better.

He is not john stones ....we have vastly overrated that part of his game... although he is a solid centre half real madrid bound he wont be

Bear in mind Moyes bought John Stones and wanted to play him at RB, which is the position he'd played in at Barnsley.

Martinez saw him and switched him to CB and encouraged him to play out from the back.

That's the difference; you'll never get a CB encouraged to get the ball down and play under Moyes.
