2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

I think so too.

However, no decent CL club is coming to Everton to pay the type of cash we'd want for him anytime soon.

Needs to add a good bit to his game. Most of all he needs to prove he can carry the ball forward and use it. He doesn't do that enough, and sadly he wont get that coaching from Moyes.

IMO, having looked at the two, I'm increasingly of the opinion there's more headroom for O'Brien than Branthwaite.
I think the reason we can be optimistic of keeping him is that most Prem teams are struggling with PSR. This will hopefully prevent any real interest. I’m genuinely excited at the prospect of him alongside O’Brien in the near future. I think O’Brien has a similar amount of potential. Just need the full backs now.

I really like O'Brien but he has only played 8 or 9 games at fullback and not at center half. Branthwaite will have 2 full years as our center half in a defence that is 5 or 6th best in the league the one player I don't think we can afford to lose.

Imagine how bad he'd have been at carrying the ball out from defence under Hoofmeister General Dyche then. Maybe he's to blame for the drop off the cliff given he's coached him more in the last year...

Leave us for where right now? He hasn't got the ability to make a top CL level team. Not right now. He's proven that this season. He hasn't just plateaued he's dipped in form.

He is one of the best young cb in Europe dave .

if he can’t get in the England team and tuchel does what used to happen in the early 2000’s and only picks from rs, arsenal , Man U etc…. He will leave

He was being linked the Madrid wasn’t he

He is a very good cb now , and has huge potential which he will fulfill as long as he stays injury free

Typical Sky...

Adapting to a new manager / style (one where we try to win).

Not the best form for him - but we are unbeaten in an age and clearly better with him in the team than Keane.

So, he has a lot of value to us, let's sort his contract.

IMO he'll be left here another year and elite clubs will want to see his next step.

I understand the point you're making. FWIW I think he's had a few dodgy moments this season and, despite some really good form of late, I think he was perhaps better overall last season.

It's a difficult one because his size, speed, nationality and being left footed are all things that make him a rare commodity and we are right to place a hefty valuation on him because of it. However, you can understand why your top clubs would baulk at £70m or whatever it is we've priced him at. It's a huge fee for a player who's not really been in the England thinking much and is playing for a lower Premier League side.

In the normal course of events, he'd be looking at a £40m-ish transfer to a top 7 side before a bigger move, but obviously we see his value now.

With PSR in place for another year, there's still a strong possibility he leaves I would guess given our need to generate balance sheet profits, but I'm not sure a centre back pairing of Tarkowski and O'Brien (and I agree O'Brien looks very promising) has the same balance about it as one which has Branthwaite and that natural left-sided balance.

He won’t leave on the cheap, even Moyes said it, in his press conference. Moyes will probably look what happened with Rice and hopefully keep him around for another year or two and get the maximum we can. Rice’s value went up 40mil in 2 years

That's a fair point. Moyes did manage to extract £100m for Rice by holding onto him, but then Rice was playing for a team in the European places
