USMNT - The Pochettino era

Lol... He's all the news at the moment:

I suppose no one saw the other remarks he made earlier in the week about Mr. Levy?
His tongue was so far up his hoop that he could taste the kosher matzah ball soup Danny boy had for lunch!

Covering all his bases, I guess? Waiting for Ange to get the sack? Putting in a lacklustre performance during the week that resulted in a loss? Ummmmmm... 🤔

Tell me it's true that they blasted Van Halen's 'Panama' through the stadium's PA system after the match?

Or is that just a BS rumour? Seems like a missed opportunity if they didn't.

Yeah not sold on Marsch personally. Massive Ted Lasso vibes.

At least we only lost to Mexico.

Going down to Panama is not a good look but this is the worst USA squad I've seen in ages.
He can get them to No1-2 in CONCACAF.

Its generally an exciting style he plays, sure against a good team they'll get taken out easily. This is fine, if you aren't ever going to be really good at something, then have some fun.

Dreadful. Nothing through the middle, everything wide and toothless. Weah on the left, Pulisic in the middle, Musah at RB, Turner in goal, Reyna nailed to the bench. Have to say his reign thus far is aimless.

But seriously Nations League is terrible. Had much more to gain playing friendlies against good European sides instead of hauling our guys halfway across the world so Panama could kick lumps in them for 90 minutes.

We are trash. Agree with the sentiment that the players are both:

A. Overrated and
B. Uninterested

There’s no fight. No edge. No pride. Just lazy soccer and a flight back to Europe. Poch has a big job to balance playing the guys at the “big clubs,” and finding the hunger that those guys seem to lack. I refuse to believe this is the best we have to offer. Panama and Canada both outplayed and out worked our boys. Something had to give between now and next summer.

I don’t know, the play is lethargic and Poch is saying it’s a mental thing. What I see is risk averse passing, nothing through the middle, safe (and toothless) outside. That’s tactical.

He also has his ideas and how he wants to play, and is shoe horning players into positions they are not comfortable with. That’s what I would expect from a club manager, where he proves that they players don’t fit his system and then goes out and buys ones that do.

Unfortunately that’s not possible in international soccer where the managers need to be tactically flexible. He’s either going to learn this, or continue to play Pulisic through the middle and go out in the group stages next year.

And yes there is a real lack of talent in key areas, striker and CB the most glaring. It makes me despondent watching a 37 year old Ream being legitimately one of the first names on the sheet. And Chris Richards is just a mistake waiting to happen (and often does).
